Annapurna Circuit

Kagbeni to Pokhara

Hours of hiking along and across the Kali Gandaki riverbed, facing into a headwind. Lots of donkey caravans, dubious log bridges and dust! Tasted the local specialty - apple cider - at Marpha, twisted my ankle at Ghasa, soaked in the hot springs at Tatopani, got bailed up by smartly-dressed Moaists outside Ghorapani. They made a killing that day, raking in over US$700 from a 30-strong school group, us and some trekkers behind us. Staggered down 3280 steps below Ulleri, bought some lovely jewellry from Karma, a Tibetan refugee at Nayapul and then boarded the bus to Pokhara. Which promptly lost its steering negotiating the hairpin bends! Thanks to a reluctant but kindly local who put us all in his minibus and drove at 40kph to save his suspension, we made it safely to Pokhara.
