honest to god, this wasn't my idea. no. really.
you all have robert reardon to blame for this one.
see, ever since september the first of last
year [1997] i've been behind a firewall [a firewall is sort of like a security blanket, the
technikon [think college] main computer makes sure that only certain internet traffic is allowed
in and out of the building. which basically meant that my email and other services have been
[still are] in a state of extreme jeopardy, and who do i have to thank for that? why the technikon
admin. anyway. rant over.]
since the firewall came up the admin have been threatening various
nasty and unco-operative measures to keep most of us off of the internet. they're trying to basically
go:yes, there is a world out there, but you can't be part of it, so sue us.
i haven't. it's going to
work out to be too expensive ;)
ok, so our email has been under threat for the last three months
and for the last three months i've been living off of a freemail server, which um...well...isn't useful,
since it's based in a world-wide-web server and essentially very slow. ok, so i've been collecting
my mail on the www for the last three months, but i'm going back to technikon soon. can someone spot the
problem yet?
that still doesn't explain why the wiffle page is up, does it?
as a rule, i used to end my digest posts with the line:
hugs, wiffles and other stuff
but since i have to collect my email from a www server and since that's inordinately slow, i can't do
niceties like that much anymore, i'm basically restricted to answering questions as they come and
making insane comments about nine inch nails. [see, telephone access costs a small fortune in this
country. [south africa] i could have bought a little island in the commores with the money i've spent
just answering email.]
so now the wiffle page is up so that everyone can get a wiffle, a hug and a smile for free.
(lord, do i ever feel stupid for doing that.)
having said all of that, i think i'm going to go to sleep.
um. night.
