The Playground

"The true writer has nothing to say. What counts is the way he says it."

--Alain Robbe-Grillet; For a New Novel

I'm lucky, I suppose. I like writing, and I seem to be able to make a living at it. It's fun to get paid for something you like to do, and I find it fun to do even if I'm not getting paid.

This is the part of my garden where I have a little fun in my own way: with writing. Here, I'll post a piece of writing from time to time, on some topic that concerns or interests me. Some might be humourous, some might be serious. You're free to take them or leave them, as you please.

The following are the items currently available:

  • Is Purging Helpful? Purging is something that we're afraid of. But can it be helpful? This essay explores the question.

  • What's in a Name? This essay looks at the importance of the names we choose, and how they help us to accept ourselves.

  • Thinking of You I try my hand at a little poetry.

  • At Last A Home I try a little more.

  • Excuses, Excuses An essay that examines the excuse given by many snowboarders during the marijuana debate at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

  • The Maidens on the Unicorns A poem inspired by a friend's dream. The poem is similar to an old ballad, and in the tradition of that form of poetry, it can be sung also.
