Taipei Fun List

TAIPEI,

the capital city of Taiwan, is a very crowded city. However, as the biggest city in such a flourishing economy environment, Taipei is a colorful city. As you hope, Taipei is full of fun. For me, an active fun searcher, Taipei is just like a treasure island. Now, I start to list what I experienced, and infomation will be filled in this list gradually.(update on 25th Aug.)

Bookstores

Eslite
The best bookstore for the gentry. With elegant decoration, soft light and jazz music, it is so popular by young people. Eslite is a gayfriendly bookstore. Maybe it is a good cruising area.
Hsin Hsueh-yo
It usually publishes textbooks for the primary school.
Kingstone
You can find it in almost every city and county. Also popular by young people, but it is not so elegant as Eslite.
San Min
It is a big bookstore for college textbooks, dictionaries and official publishings.

Gay Bars

Funky
It is located downtown (near the Taipei Main Station). The most popular gay disco bar. During the weekend, more than 600 people in and out there.
The Source
Drink bar with many foriegners. Small but friendly. With a small dancing place. Sometimes there is special show played by almost naked dancers.
Tattoo
Brand new and popular. Owned by a male singer. Compared to Funky, it's cheaper and more popular by dancing likers.

Night Clubs

It is very popular by young people. It is owned by two famous Taiwan male singers-Chen Sheng and Woo Bai.

Night Markets

Shi-lin Night Market
It is beside the Chien-tan Stop of Tansui line. It is famous of "Shilin big sausege", "small cookie in big bread", "fresh-scrambled dumpling".
Shi-tah Night Market
It is just beside the National Taiwan Normal University. Very crowded in the night, and you can find a lot of foods here.
Wha-xi Street Night Market
It is in the former downtown area. Originally a prostitution area. Now, it is not anymore. It is famous of "snake soup".

Restaurants

Blackbird Long Life (Wu-Ya-Chang-Sho)
A fabulous decorated place. Alcohol available.
Sunshine, Air, Flower and Water
A fantastic place with Greek style decoration. Alcohol available.
T.G.I Fridays
It is very popular by young people. There are many gay waiters or waitresses in this restaurant.

Saunas

Dafan
It is just beside the Taipei Main Station, so it is usually full of people. After 6:00am, you pay NT$300 to have fun till 12:00am. After 6:00pm, you pay NT$350 to have fun till 12:00pm. Rooms during the weekend are usually unavailable. Free condoms are not offered, and there is no vending maschine. If you want to go there, please bring your own condoms!!
Hans
It is smaller than Dafan, but it's cleaner. Compared to Dafan, I prefer Hans. The charge is the same as Dafan, but there is sometimes playing gay porny movies during the weekend nights. Free condoms are offered, just go ahead to the frontdesk to ask. "Condom" in Chinese, the pronunciation is like "Bao-sian-tao".
