Hooked on Fishing — Not on Drugs
Matthew Deakins wrote to explain how his involvement in fishing activities had helped keep him away from drugs and how he thought it would help other youth, too. The Future Fisherman Foundation recognized that the many benefits of fishing would be very effective in the battle against drugs. “Hooked on Fishing -— Not on Drugs” provides a positive, fun alternative for youth to help them avoid troubling situations. It helps students develop essential life skills such as goal setting, decision making, and problem solving, and improves self-esteem. The program also promotes the involvement of good role models in students’ lives.
