Dean Dave spoke about Kosovo during Mission Night. Unfortunately, the tape he ordered didn't come in, but Dave did a great job telling us about the tragedy that is going on there. And who can forget the Give to Me Too song brought to us by some of the counselors? We had some pretty generous campers that week....we raised a huge amount of money for the cause. I can't remember off hand how much we raised, but it was over $300 I believe.
With Brian as our DJ, the dance was sure to be a success...and that it was! I could hardly recognize some of my *shy* and *reserved* campers as they jumped around and danced like mad. Gymnast Renee and Chris won the limbo contest while Josh and Kelsey were the best twisters.
Games Night was quite different this year. There were five games and five groups that rotated. Kasse had a sandcastle building game, and one group built Yoda! Judy's game was invent a game, and some of the campers got pretty creative. Gordo had the kids building structures out of spaghetti and marshmallows. Two groups managed to get their structure 23 inches tall! Rob's game was the funniest....the kids stuck life savers on someone's back and sang the Michigamme song. But my favorite was Uncle Don's game...the Camp Michigamme scavenger hunt quiz game. One of the questions was "Which camp bum is getting married in September of 1999." The kids knew I am getting married next summer, so when we got to that question, the following conversation took place:
CAMPERS: It's you, it's you!
ME: No, look again. It says September of 1999.
CAMEPERS: Well, that's when you're getting married! You're the answer!
ME: No, I'm getting married in August of 2000.
CAMPERS: No, you're not. You're getting married in September.
ME: No, guys, that's Brian.
CAMPERS: No it's not, it's you.
ME: Seriously, you guys, the answer is Brian.
CAMPERS: No, it's you.
MARIANN: You guys, Jen's getting married next summer. The question says September of 1999.
CAMPERS: Uh uh. Still think it's you.
Well, I am so glad they cleared that up for me! I would have shown up August 5, 2000 to an empty chapel if they hadn't told me when my own wedding was! :)
Skit night was, as usual, really funny! However, unlike skit nights of the past, this one had rules....lots of rules....as we found out at every meal's announcements. This made for a successful (and puddingless) night. Visit the Skit Night Picture Page . Some highlights included Jeremy's great joke: "Cheerleading is a sport," the traditional pop song turned camp , a Friends parody, Kali and Heather tapping, focusing on Tim's butt, Sparky as Steve from Blue's Clues, Jodi and co. announcing that they are Dean Deane, and the enlarging machine helping Dan get bigger underwear (which was funnier than the actual punchline to the skit). And who could forget Frank's Pickle Barrel Canteen?
CENTER>Banquet and Communion Night
After all the wacky evenings, it was time to get serious. The banquet honored all the ninth graders (how can both the campers I counseled five summers ago as elementary campers be going to senior high camp next year??????? It seems like only yesterday I had to walk these two to the bathroom...ahh...elementary camp memories). Communion was a wonderful time of worship. I felt God in the chapel with us, as did many others. Many campers devoted their lives to Jesus that night and all the other evenings as well. I am so happy for all of you who did :)
