A few years ago, Dan S. decided to place an posting in the Bay Area Times to get gay and lesbian windsurfers sailing together. Unfortunately, the women seem to come once, see there aren't any other women in the group and leave. If they would just hang for a time or two, they'd meet some other women. Windsurfers being what we are, we aren't much into brunch :) or formal stuff. So, we just get together and sail on alternate Sundays, often at Candlestick. There are about 8 of us that are regulars. Most of us meet more often than that. Some of us are known to be windsurfing addicts.
Being someone who isn't much into the "gay scene" and being new in town, I've really appreciated having some buddies to sail with. It's even better that they are gay. In the off season, some of us hang together mountain biking and skiing. (okay, David and Kirk, snowboarding counts too)
We aren't much on formality (is there any?). We're just a handy way for gay sailors to get to know each other and find friends to sail with. We are generally intermediate to advanced sailors, but last year a couple of us were just barely beginners. We'd love to have a few more beginners who we could hook into this fine sport too!
