Do you like adventure? Tropical vacations? Hunky dudes (or dudettes?) in dripping wet rubber suits or harnesses (okay, this is optional)? Or stripping out of their suits - hey admit it, you've enjoyed it! How about speeding along the water? Soaking up the sun? Being with fun people who have interests more broad than shopping, bars and movies?
Can you imagine what it feels like to come off a shred session on the water and watch the sunset? How about the feeling of accomplishment that you feel almost every day when you do something new and better (or sometimes clumsier?) then ever before?
Are you looking for a way to build or keep a great body without having to live at the gym?
If you're hesitant because of the cost, there are lots of ways to get into the sport without a big wallet. The SF School of Windsurfing has beginner and intermediate lessons on Lake Merced and at Candlestick Park (fyi, only the ballpark has that other name, the actual park is still Candlestick). They also have good rental rates and Jeff, the owner, is a great guy who treats his customers right. Once you get into the sport, swap meets can net you a full set of gear for under $1000.
The bay water is rarely cold with a wetsuit on (remember El Nino?), but if that is scaring you away, have you ever been to the Delta? Rio Vista? Sherman Island? San Luis Reservoir? Is 90 degrees too cold for you still? The water is about 75 I'd guess. You gotta jump in to stay comfortable! The group gives us an informal way to share rides, and a fun group of people to camp out with too. Try it! You just might find it a bit more fun than Club Universe!
