David Bridgford was the son of a British officer and official in Canada. He was in the merchant shipping trade before the war in New York and Richmond. Member of the Richmond Light Infantry Blues. Joined 1st. Va. as Captian in April, 1861. Appointed commander of B Company, May, 1861. Promoted to Major October, 1862 and took command of the Battalion. Served as "acting" Provost Marshall of the ANV from June, 1863 until the end of the war. Returned to New York and the shipping trade after the war. Died in New York City Feb.21,1888
