This is where all the training gets used.  The ride-along program gives Explorers an opportunity to ride along with working Firefighters on Fire or Rescue apparatus.  The Explorers respond with the rest of the crew to actual emergency calls.  They do not just observe, they get involved.  With a few limitations, Explorers are right there with the Firefighters and Paramedics.

Explorers are allowed to administer oxygen, take blood pressures, help bandage, perform C.P.R., and help backboard patients.  They also assist in whatever manner the Paramedic/E.M.T.'s need help.  As for the fire side of things, Explorers can do just about anything except enter a burning structure.  They can use the Hurst tool ("jaws of life") to help extract a patient from a vehicle accident, they can extinguish a dumpster fire, and they can also help in the salvage and overhaul after a fire.  Some Explorers also choose to ride alone in the Prevention bureau and help the Fire Inspectors with their inspections.
