History of Boy Scout Troop 165

Boy Scout Troop 165 was Chartered on May 14, 1984.

The Chartering Organization is The 165 Tactical Airlift Group Georgia ANG which today is The 165 Tactical Airlift Wing Georgia ANG located at Savannah IAP.


The Exectivite Officer was Colonel William P. Bland who is now Major General - The Adjuant General for the State of Georgia ANG.

The Scouting Coordinator was Major William P.Tice.

Charter Members are:

James M. Reese - ScoutMaster

Eugene L. Chavis- ASM

Judy Reese Committee Chairman

Louise Chavis Committee Member


The Troops other Committee members were

David Bacon, Sr

Barbara Bacon

The first Troop Flag was donated by the Bacon, Chavis, and Reese Families.

David James donated the flagpoles, ornaments and flag stands.

The Troop's first American Flag was secured by US Senator Mac Mattingly.

The Troop's First Blue Ribbon was earned at The Annual Scout Show held at The National Guard Amory in Savannah Georgia on November 10, 1984,


The Troop Meetings were held at The Rincon Community Building on HW 21 in Rincon Georgia from May 1984 until August 1987. The Troop purchased it's first storage container in 1985.
The Rincon Lions Club provided the Troop it's present Meeting location and storage at The Rincon Lion's Club Building on Lexington Street. We moved in August 1987. The Troop secured it's second storage container on June 1995.

The Troop participated for the first time in The Rincon Lion's Club Annual Parade held on November 3, 1984. It has participated every year since and has provided the Color Guard for the last four years.

The Troop has supported Cub Pack 665 at it's Annual Camp Bradley Bee since May 1984.

The Troop has provided support to The 165 Tactical Airlift Wing Georgia ANG with it's Annual Family Day Program.
