Hunter's Special

The importance of hunting both for the economy and the wildlife is not understood by the majority of our population. I hope to increase the understanding of the relationship between both. I will be concentrating on Wisconsin and Minnesota.

As our population grows and cities grow we are losing our rural land, this puts a lot of pressure on the wildlife which have adapted to live in the proximity of man.

Questions to think about:
Who will supply the funds to remove problem animals if the DNR does not sell any hunting or trapping license’s?
?
Why should we pay the DNR to keep the wild game populations in check, when outdoorsmen ( hunters & trappers ) are willing to pay for this right.
( I beleive the DNR should controll the number of tags given out so that overharvest does not occur. I feel that the DNR can do a better job than our state legislature. )

My hunting experiences began when I was 14, when I went squirrel hunting for the first time. I was hooked. I also hunted ruffed grouse, rabbit, duck, geese and deer. I hunted deer with both rifle and bow. I gave up duck and goose hunting when I turned 16 (they were not challenging enough). At 16 I tried raccoon hunting, there is nothing else like the song of a hound running track. When I was 20 I was given a gun shy Irish Setter, not much of a hunting dog. My next dog was an Irish Setter-Gold Lab cross, now this was a bird/squirrel dog. When I was 22 I got my first hound (Black & Tan - Walker cross). I now have all registered Plotts in my kennel. I also gave up bowhunting, I did not have the time required for the sport (I feel if you can not give it 100% the odds are to high of getting a poor shot). At 23 I tried running bear. This has become my favorite sport followed by raccoon, deer, ruffed grouse, rabbit and then squirrel.
My favorite meat is bear followed by ruffed grouse, early season rabbit, deer, beef and then squirrel.
