Troop 51 News
|
Is everyone ready to go back to school? Well
ready or not, it is coming. Now that school is starting back, Troop 51
will continue our "Scout year." We will continue to meet at
7:00 in the Woodyard center and have at least one outing each month.
PATROL LEADERS: Make sure you call ALL of the
boys in your patrol to remind them of the upcoming Troop meeting next week and
also the upcoming events contained below.
ADULT SCOUT LEADERS: If you're planning to go
on the August Sliding Rock
Trip (Aug 19), please go on-line to www.scbsa.org and click
on the "TRAINING" tab on the navigation bar along the top of the
screen. Then click on the Safe Swim Defense / Safety Afloat and complete
the online training. You will then be able to print off a card that you
can take by the Sequoyah Council Service Center for signature. This
training is good for two years. While you're on the "TRAINING"
tab, you may want to take the Youth Protection Training too. Our new
leaders will want to check out the Boy Scout Fast Start Training. If you
can not make the camping trip can you make it to the Good Turn for America at
the Scout office from 10-2 to learn how to better involve Scouts in the
community?
The 21st World Boy Scout Jamboree will be held July
27-August 8, 2007 in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, England. Here's the link
for more information: http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=xx&c=ds&terms=international+scouts&x=0&y=0
I received information in the mail about Sequoyah Council
organizing a contingent for the 2006 trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron,
New Mexico. The dates are July 9-25, 2006. The cost will be $1250
per person and includes transportation, meals, side trips, patches, t-shirts,
hat, and more.
AUGUST TROOP EVENT IS: August 19-21, Sliding
Rock and Looking Glass Rock NC.
TROOP 51 NEEDS TO HAVE A PARTY!!
That's right...we need to have a party. Actually we are due for a court
of honor Monday August 29th. We've got awards to give
out. Parents are always invited and need to come to see what
awards your son has achieved!! We will also have a slide show of summer
camp highlights
TROOP FUNDRAISING: Popcorn Sales will start
Monday Sept 12th. We need a volunteer
to coordinate the sale for the troop. Please consider helping out
here if you can.
WOOD BADGE 2006:
The Council and individual districts want to emphasize the
training in each area of Scouting (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Exploring and
Venturing) and the need to be ready for Wood Badge training. The next
Wood Badge will be in April of 2006. It is never too early to start the
preliminary training for Wood Badge. There were a few comments this last
course that "they" thought there would be more training in food prep,
outdoor skills and back country experience. These particular items are
covered in the Basic Leader Training (BLT) courses as well as the Outdoor
skills. If you're an adult leader and are interested, let me know so we
can work on getting your BLT and Outdoor skills training completed. I can
tell you from my own personal experience, Wood Badge is excellent leadership
training that will help you in all areas of your life.
