Common Name: Flathead (Platycephalus indicus).Goo Boey Hoo in Hokkien (Oxtail fish). Baji-baji in Malay.
Description: Gets its name from the
shape of its head, which is flat like a wedge. Has a brownish
body, speckled in shades of dark brown patches. Has a spiny dorsal
fin and gill covers.Grows to about 30cm in length.Inhabits inlets,
estruaries and bays, usually on sandy areas. A very common fish
in Australia.
Tips: Feeds on small fish, worms and prawns. If using live fish, use free lining on 5kg mainline and 1/0 size hook at the maximum. Best fished when the tide is coming in. A friend once caught this fish using spinners off the Klang estuary.
