Common Name: Snub Nosed Dart (Trachinotus
blochii) Kim Cheo in Hokkien and Nyiur-nyuir in Malay.
Description: Looks like the trevally,
golden yellow all over. Most of the golden sheen fades after death.
Common length about 30cm but can grow up to 60cm.Inhabits estuaries,
bays and lagoons, where the water is clear and the bottom is sandy.
Very strong and fast swimmer and when hook, will jump out of the
water. Good fighter on light tackles. Feeds on small crustaceans
and molluscs.
Tips: Use small hooks (No 5 or 6) for best results since the fish has a small mouth. Bottom fish within single or at most, two hooks. For best bet, I am told that smelly dead prawns work best in areas where darts are aplenty.
