THE NORTHEAST WORKING EQUIPMENT GROUP held its six annual Labor Day Working Equipmant rally at Willow Springs Quarry Park in Richland, Pennsylvania, over the three-day weekend of September 5-7, 1998. Things got off to a slow start on Saturday with delays getting the compressors online, so hostilities commenced with Tim Berger trying out Bob Rusnak's Snead hood (above left) with Raymond Tucker manning Rusnak's Morse hand wobble-pump. Then Navy diver James Smith tried out the infamous Bubble Hat (above right) on the hand pump. Ray Tucker then donned Rusnak's Navy "Bunny Suit" and Jack Browne mask (below left) for another hand-pump dive. Bob Rusnak (below right) did his best "Mike Nelson" pose in a classic smoothskin wetsuit and double-hose scuba rig.
WITH THE AIR COMPRESSORS ONPLINE, the "real" diving commenced with Navy diver James Smith from nearby Womelsdorf doing the "hero pose" with his son (left) before his dive in Ray Butts' MkV. Then John Bessette from Massachusetts (right) got his first MkV dive.
