This site is devoted to wildlife in the western United States and we have pages on the cougar, wolf, buffalo, elk, and birds of the west. This site is maintained by an animal lover and has nothing of interest to those who do not love and value the animal kingdom.

Our personal abode is ruled by dogs and cats with a couple of birds for good measure and we have a fat little Guinea Pig named Trudy. We live in the city but have a love and admiration for the creatures of the wild. One of our birds is a Cardinal, hand raised after being blown out of its nest in a storm, and now too tame to release. We also offer a page for our National Parks.

In North America, wildlife has been under pressure from man for over 300 years...since 1630 when the Massachusetts Bay Colony offered a bounty of one penny per wolf.

North America has lost more wildlife species through extinction in the last 100 years than Europe has lost in 1000 years. Working against wildlife and difficult to arrest is the loss of habitat. A bird or mammal cannot survive if it's special environment has been turned into an orchard, plantation, shopping center or subdivision.

A squirrel, in olden days, might have leaped from branch to branch for a thousand miles, so continuous were the forests. The first settlers thought the continent was cloaked in a green mantle of trees but when pioneers came westward, they found only half of it was so covered. West of the Mississippi, trees gave way to a sea of grass, creating the divide which separates the Eastern hardwood forests from the evergreen covered Rockies.

I was a Community Leader and while I do not have an area in Yosemite, you may still email me if you need assistance.

I have served as Liaison in Petsburgh and have been with the CL Program now for over four years. I maintain a site for those animals with disabilies, such as blindness, loss of hearing, or other health issues.
