The investiture of Moruya Scout, Sean Brown, was the worlds first
live investiture broadcasted over the Internet. This was part of the annual
Jamboree of the Internet (JOTI) in which over half a million scouts participate
internationally.
Moruya JOTI Organiser, Louis Matti, said, Its great to see
so many local boys and girls enjoying this global event. Many contacts
with neighbouring groups and far away countries have been established,
and Im sure these contacts will be maintained for a long time. I
also thank Eurobodalla Shire Council and specifically Jim Levy, for providing
access to the staff room.
The event began at 2pm on Saturday with the Cub Scouts. Moruya Guides
had many members present during the afternoon, before Scouts and Venturers
arrived to communicate throughout the night.
During a conversation with a Dutch Scout Group, it was interesting to
learn their highest mountain has an altitude of 300m. It was also learnt
from scouts from the Faroe Islands that the temperature all year round
is between 10 and 20 degrees, with icebergs often floating by.
59 countries were recorded on the contact list, with entries spanning
all continents with countries such as Aruba Island, Malta, Tunisia, Peru
and Zambia.
