The present Moruya Venturer Unit was set up by a group of Year 9 and 10 students, all with a keen interest in outdoor activities, in 1995. Since then, the unit has expanded in number to include just fewer than 20 members and 3 leaders. Beyond this are a number of highly enthusiastic and outgoing parents and relatives who are constantly driving their sons and daughters to Venturer meetings and expeditions, and are sometimes even keen to be involved themselves.
There just never seems to be enough time for this Venturer unit to undertake all the activities it wants to do! Hiking, abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, yachting, caving, camping and sea kayaking are just some of the group's interests. There is always Moruya Venturer representatives at the numerous integrated Venturer activities including Initiative courses, Roventures and Eurovers. Venturers are also involved in a number of services to the community, such as Dune Care and the collecting of money for the Salvation Army Appeal.
Similarly, to all the other Venturer and Scouting groups throughout Australia and the world, the Moruya Branch of Venturers gives the youth of the area access to the outdoors and the millions of opportunities that are available there. In addition, it gives studentts important leadership skills and teaches them the importance of cooperation abd being able to work in a group. Besides that, Venturers in Moruya, is simply a fun and exciting experience!
