****************************THE HEAT WAVE HAS BROKEN**************************** 1. There is a hint of autumn in the air...overnight temperature at Avalanche over the Labor day Weekend dropped to 48º. The fish are taking on their spawning coloration, maples are turning, & the willows are losing leaves. September 30 will get here way too soon:-( 2. Many anglers assume that the Trico hatches are over for the year. Trico activity continues through the end of the season. There will also be daily hatches of Psuedocloeons,(tiny BWO's), to test our skills. 3. Trico hatches are heavy on Timber Coulee!!! Peak activity comes as the air temperature reaches 65ºf. Look for clouds of spinners over the riffles, & get in position for some exciting small fly,(#20-#24), action. Refusals are usually due to micro-drag, so practice the various slack line casts. 4. Small,(¾") hoppers are raising some nice fish on the Timber system, and the West Fork. On sunny days, look for fish sipping ants under the trees and bushes. Crickets and beetles are effective when cast close to overhead cover. 5. Many Coulee Region streams were stocked with wild strain brook trout. Release them gently, & hopefully they will live to spawn. 6. TIGHT LINES:-)
