Level: beginner to expert
How to get there: Follow Hwy 99 north past Horsehoe Bay. Watch for the road marked *Kelvin Grove* just past Lions Bay - turn left. Stay left and follow road down to cul-de-sac just past railway tracks. Drop your gear at the top of the path and park your car at the top of the hill. **Note: Due to complaints about divers, parking restrictions are enforced. Please make sure you are parked where allowed, clean up after yourself, and be quiet and courteous to the residents.
Facilities: Seasonal washrooms. Closest telephones in Lions Bay. Garbage can by washrooms.
Hazards: Depth, current, and logs at high tide. Occasional boat during summer months.
How to dive this site: For the first dive, enter at the bottom of the stairs. Swim out towards the north wall on the right hand side. There is a pipeline in the bay you can follow down, or you can follow the wall along. Depths as deep as you want to go. Can be some current at the point. For the second dive, either enter at the sandy beach and swim out or enter at the stairs and swim to your left. Descend at the rocky outcropping and follow the *smiley* wall. Depths to 60 feet.
What to see: Take a light. I have counted 5 octopus on the *smiley* wall on one dive. They hide deep in cracks and crevices, so you have to look for them. Shrimp and prawns at night. Grunt sculpins. Greenlings. Lingcod. Pair of red brotulas on the north wall. A big octopus in a crack at 130'. Decorated warbonnets. Puget Sound King crabs. Brittlestars. Burrowing anemones. Tunicates. Sea peaches. Ever color imaginable. Sometimes a seal too, but be careful! He is quite friendly towards divers - will chew your fins or whatever else he can get to, and has been known to nip fingers if you get them near his mouth. Also takes great delight in tugging on hoses or straps that aren't secured.
