Here's an exerpt from his email to me on 3 September 98:
"Well I made it! I got home last Friday, Aug 28 after a pretty rough
ending. All told I put 18,276 miles on my bike, drove through 27
states,
visited 34 National Parks, monuments and historic sites. That's about 25%
of the USA's total of about 134, cool! I also went through many places not
run or listed by the Gov. as Nat Parks. Like Carlsbad Caverns and park,
Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, Mt St. Helens, El Mal Pais National
Volcanic Park, MT. Hood, Mt Shasta, and Joshua Tree. I also must have
driven through 10-15 Nat. Forests & Preserves, many were really great. I
crossed or stayed in about 15-20 major US cities and met alot of great
people..."
