Pack Holiday 1998
2 Full Days
Sat 28th March - Sun 29th March
Silver End Scouts are a registered Charity - No 271619
All our leaders and helpers give up their time on a voluntary basis
Dear Cubs, Parents and friends,
Last year some of the Cubs said that they would like to "go on a train to London and look around"….. This seed was sown for this weekend.
Our base will be a great adventure in itself, The Lord Amory, a ship moored on the Thames. Run and owned by a Scout District as a sort of hostel for other groups like ours and offers an exciting and value for money way of exploring one of the most exciting cities in the world.
Even without leaving our base there is loads to see…The ship is moored under the shadow of Canary Wharf and nearby is the Millennium Dome, and of course you can go up on the bridge and get one of the best views down the Thames. On board there are all the modern facilities, but carefully included to keep the "at sea" feeling. You sleep in a traditional ship’s bunk bed in a cabin with 4 of your friends and breakfast is served from a traditional ship galley.
As the Lord Amory caters only for groups like ours, everything has been done to make the place as safe as possible…. Railings all around the boat with the whole dock is enclosed by a high fence with professional security guards and CCTV 24 hours a day.
With the Sherwood Jamboree in August much has been done to keep the cost of the weekend down…. Most of the activities we will do are free to Scouts, and as a bonus we have been able to get special permission to go inside the gates of Buck’ House. Onto the parade ground to watch the changing of the guard and we also get to stand on Tony and Cherie’s front step at No. 10.
The Price has been set at £25:00 to include everything except spending money and when you see what the boys are getting they should not want for much.
The attached forms must be returned by Tuesday 17th February with a deposit of £5:00. The remaining moneys to be paid up to Tuesday 24th March if in cash, or a week earlier on the 17th by cheque. This weekend is intended to offer a totally different experience from Sherwood and we would like to see every Cub who wants to go on the trip. To this if anyone is unable to go because of cost PLEASE contact me. We will always sort something out and only the Group Scout Leader and I need know…. In the past even the boy himself has not been aware.
If you have any other questions at all just ask….
Looking forward to a top weekend for the Challenger Cubs in March -
