Every spring, the Appalachian Bowmen host a 3-D shoot for the traditional archers in the area. Several years ago we decided to make this annual event even more fun by adding a third day of shooting. Archers continue to be able to camp on site beginning on Thursday and shoot the ranges for three days...
Shooters can take full advantage of two realistic 3-D ranges set in the hills and fields of Whittingham Wildlife Management Area. Each range consists of twenty 3-D animal targets set in realistic hunting situations. Bring along some old cedar arrows for those "tougher" shots.
In 2007, Nelson Poyer will talk about his new DVD "Traditional Bowhunting Adventures."
Steve Stivaly and Jim Pucaro will present their new DVD "Getting Stickbow Close."
In addition to the two 3-D ranges, a stump shooting course is also maintained which can test your competitive spirit. Stump Shooting/Muzzy ranges consist of a series of silhouette style targets at various distances. This is a competitive style range and shooting against a "buddy" for points adds a degree of pressure. Muzzy course rules are distributed and shooters may shoot as often as they like.
Inside the club barn, shooters may visit the vendor tables. Many local traditional archery vendors, artists, and bowyers are more than willing to talk, share advice, and even sell some products.
Door prizes are always popular with shooters. Many local and national organizations and companies support our shoots through their donation of door prizes. Even if you are not a winner of a door prize, please patronize those companies which support our sport. We have to "stick" together.
The Appalachian Bowmen Traditional Archery Rendezvous also offers Eagle Eye qualifying. Shooters who are interested can, for a $1 donation, attempt to shoot at a target placed at a fixed distance. Those that "connect" move on to the Regional event at the Denten Hill Shoot in July. Winners garner incredible prizes.
If you have any specific questions regarding the traditional shoot, feel free to contact the club via telephone any Tuesday evening after 8:00 PM. (973) 383-6787.
