Big Game Hunting Locations in ColoradoFlat Tops WildernessSPOT 25: Rainbow LakeJust off the north fork of the White River, near Rainbow Lake, to the south of Paradise Creek is a gully that a herd of elk frequents. You should hunt the steep side of the flat tops in thick, wet, dark timber. There are some good sized bulls in there.SPOT 26: Paradise Creek GullyThis gully will take you all the way to the top of the basin if you're motivated to really walk.SPOT 27: Open MeadowsThis spot is located in a big open meadow in the side of the Flat Tops. While the top of the Flat Tops is level, the sides are very steep and wet. All the water comes from springs formed by melting snow that seeps through the flat table above. This meadow is completely surrounded by dark timber and is hard to find. The bulls can feed in there and avoid the big open areas up top where they are more vulnerable to hunters.SPOT 28: Mirror LakeMirror Lake is a drop off point for a lot of the local outfitters. They put their hunters in camps not too far from there, then hunt below Mirror Lake and Sable Point.SPOT 29: Sable PointYou should hunt above the timberline. Once above the timberline hunters gain an advantage in that they are able to see elk at quite some distance.SPOT 30: Sable Lake AreaThis spot is not completely on top, but rather is located on a shoulder off the side of the Flat Tops. To get there take Trail 1820 up. This trail is called the Big Pack Trail because it goes all the way from the Marvin Creek side over the top and down to Mirror Creek. The shoulder you should hunt is wider and more level than surrounding terrain, which attracts wildlife and makes it easier for you to hunt.SPOT 31: Wild Cow ParkThis spot is located right near the rim. You can't drive in there. But if you are willing to walk a mile into the wilderness area, you'll be in a place that's known for its elk hunting.SPOT 32: East Wild Cow ParkThis spot is located right up along the rim of the Flat Tops directly to the east of Wild Cow Park. You should hunt in the big patch of timber between the rim and Wild Cow Park. The vegetation there supports a large number of animals.Spots 18 - 24
