You wanna know more?

Well, after spending three rather uneventful years in the Sacramento area, my mother, father and I moved to Lake Tahoe, California. Soon after, my little sister joined the family, rounding out the foursome. Life in Tahoe was wonderful, and growing up in such an environment instilled a love of the outdoors that will always be with me. If I had a choice between cable TV and a sleeping bag under the stars, the stars would win anyday.

The summer before middle school marked another move for the Grey family, this time to the town of Novato, about 30 miles north of San Francisco. While Tahoe was beautiful, this new place had something that Tahoe had lacked - good schools. Not to say that you can't get a great education up there, but there were just more opportunities in this new town.

It was here that I began to come out of my shell and develop interests other than school. I became active on the student council, threw myself into a great mock legislature program through the YMCA, and in my junior year of high school I performed in my first play. To be honest, I only auditioned because I wanted to get to know the kids who were in the department - I had never sung a note in front of anyone, much less up on stage. Regardless of the motivation, I landed the role of the Sargeant in the "Pirates of Penzance." Little did I know at the time how much that would end up changing my life.

So then I left for college. I attended my first year at UC Santa Barbara with my plans firmly set in my mind. Ever since I was a little kid I had wanted to be a lawyer, and I was still bent on achieving that goal. I studied Philosophy with an eye firmly fixed on law school. On a whim, however, I auditioned for a college production of "The Boys from Syracuse" and got in. It was my first time on a sizable stage in a show with an actual budget, and I was pretty thrilled. It was around this time that I actually began to realize that I might be able to make a living at this, and from then on I was a goner.

I tried the theater department for a year, and ended up leaving (at both my and their request) because I didn't fit the department, or it didn't fit me - I am still not sure which. So I continued with my studies in Philosophy, though law school was no longer my aim. I acted with the local professional theater, and fell further and further in love with the profession. I was also discovering that I wasn't half bad! By the time graduation rolled around in 1995, I had made up my mind that I was going to be an actor. Of course, I hadn't really studied acting or dance seriously, so where to begin with my new life?

I did various jobs here and there at different theaters, and things began to fall into place. I had the wonderful fortune of doing some short touring productions, and even playing my first real role, Rolf in "The Sound of Music." After that production I left as a dancer on Royal Caribbean Cruis Lines. It was at this point in my life that I discovered a great love of travel. We sailed between New York and Bermuda every week for five months. At the end of that five months I think I had explored every inch of those islands. From bike riding to scuba diving, from cave exploring to poking around old ruins, I had a blast. If you have any interest in Bermuda, be sure to check out my pictures in the Travel section of "at play."

I signed off my cruise ship in New York, and decided to stay a while and see what it was like. I quickly fell in love with the city, with its passion for the arts. After only a few months, however, I landed my dream job and had to leave. The job? Doing one of my favorite shows, "42nd Street," in Zurich, Switzerland.

I moved my things home to California, and left for Switzerland for three glorious months. It is hard to explain what that period in my life meant to me. It was the first time that I really felt like I had achived something important - the first time I was doing something a little daring - the first time I felt like an actual adult. I made sure that I didn't waste a moment of my time in Switzerland. Every day we had off, I was on a train to somewhere. Check out the Swiss section of "at play" and you will see what I mean.

After the show closed, I stayed in Europe for another 5 and a half weeks. I travelled as much as I could - as you can see from my photos in the "Europe" section elsewhere in this site. It was quite probably the best time I had ever had - crossing that continent all by my lonesome! All good things must end I suppose, and of course I had to come back. Which brings us to the spring of '97.

Since then I have tried to stay busy. I have worked in Texas, Arizona, Missouri, Ohio, Minnesota, and California. I finally joined the union, and am now trying to take my career a little more seriously. This was the primary motivation in what has been the biggest move I have ever made - the move to New York, on March 2nd, 1999. I figure that this is the place where all the action is, so this is where I should be. I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life.

What have I learned in these first 25 years? What wisdom have I attained in my quarter of a century? Not much - just this. Go - Do - Make - Achieve --- Live.
