I am a native of Michigan, and was raised on 80 acres of woodland for 18
years before heading off to college. Although I did not study nature
or science at college, I did major in education. This means I have
encountered many different teaching philosophies. Of all the
teaching styles I have practiced in the past 6 years, I have found that
experiential education plants the longest-lasting seeds of knowledge.
Since college, I have taken classes at Tom
Brown, Jr.'s, Tracking, Nature, and Wilderness Survival School, Asbury, NJ,
and through the Wilderness Awareness
School, Duvall, Washington. Some of the courses I have taken
include standard survival skills, animal tracking, hide tanning, flint
knapping, edible plants, bird language, the art of mentoring, and
philosophy. All of these courses are based on knowledge of native
teachers - people such as Stalking Wolf, Gilbert Walking Bull, and Jake
Swamp.
Although I am far from an expert in any of the previous fields, I do
know that it is my path to share what I do know as I learn it. This
keeps my own skills fresh, and helps spread the knowledge of the Earth to
more people faster. Please do try some of the activities I have
included on my pages. They are there for a reason, and you
are here for a reason, too.
I always look forward to feedback
and insights. Please teach me! |
