Subject: | Yakima River Smallmouth Bass | Small Mouth Bass Dripping on My Keyboard |
The freezing level dropped last week; so did the Yakima River.
Today, on a warm, calm, sunny eastern Washington spring day I decided to try my
luck at my favorite bank site on the Yakima river just outside of West Richland above Twin
Bridges. The water was significantly off color but clear enough so that the fishing was red hot. The Columbia River spawner smallies are in and on the bite. I started fishing at about 2:30 in the afternoon. And the bites were one after another. I first hooked and caught a 10# plus carp. I think the biggest that I have ever caught on the Yakima River. I followed the carp up with a 17" bass and a 15" bass. The bass were fighters too. I finished off with a larger sucker that was promptly killed and released for fertilizer. All of the fish were caught on night crawler on the bottom with a small split shot on 8# test. Now, believe me I usually like to catch and release bass in the Yakima river; especially, when the spawn is on. Truthfully, I was really hungry for some white fish, the second fish was hooked deep, and times are tough when you're a young retiree. So please hold off on the Meat Fisherman e-mails. The rest of the fish I catch this week will be released. Get em while they are hot!!!!! Good Fishing All Mark |
