About Scott A. Ensminger



   Scott A. Ensminger has a special interest in caves and waterfalls. He has authored books and articles about both subjects.

   In 1987 the Niagara County Historical Society published his book "The Caves of Niagara County, New York". He is a contributor to the book "Our Romantic Niagara --- A Geological History of the River and Falls," published in 1988 by The Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation (Canada).

   In 1991 Mr. Ensminger initiated the Western New York Waterfall Survey. Its purpose is to catalog all of the waterfalls found in the western half of New York State. As of October 05, 2006 the total of known waterfalls was 986. Also in 1991 he published "A Waterfall Guide to Letchworth State Park," which was co-authored with park naturalist Douglas K. Bassett. A second edition of the Guide was published in 1996 by the Glen Iris Inn, which is located in the park.

   In March of 1993 Mr. Ensminger traveled to Brazil to see the largest waterfall in the world, Iguacu Falls. This colossal waterfall has a crest length of 8,700 feet (2,652 m) and a height of 260 feet (79 m).

   In 1998 he appeared in "Niagara Falls: Raging Rapids," a film shot in HD for the the Discovery Channel.

   Also in 1998 he appeared in a live TV program entitled "This is Niagara Falls." The two hour program was produced by the NHK TV network of Japan. It was shot in HD TV and beamed to Japan by satellite.

   In 2001 Mr. Ensminger published "Finger Lakes Falls." A guide to waterfalls found in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.

   In 2002 he published "Niagara's Sisters." A guide book to more than 25 waterfalls found within a two hour drive of Niagara Falls.
