Hi,

I'm back from my maka'i loa (wonderful) vacation.
So, here is some of the backlogged tasteless jokes.
{I've cut the jokes, didn't think you would want to be subjected to them again. ;-) k}

Helllooooooooo out there.......
Can you believe it is almost JULY? The summer is whizzing past us at warp speed and my only wish is to be able to slow it down some!. Since acquiring the island house, Brian and I are home even less... Every weekend for the past month or so we have skiffed across Guemas Channel, up Rosario Straight and into Strawberry Bay to our bouy to tie up and paddle the dingy ashore to stoke the wood stove and sip java on a beached cedar log watching Orca whales play in the Sound. It's simply majic.

We picked up an older Bayliner cabin cruizer to use as a taxi to get to and from. Until recently, we've been struggling on what to name it. It occured to us at the gas pump when filling up the 70 gal. tank .... the boats name is....GAS HAWG.

On the island we have a neighbor. His name is Ed. Ed lives "year round" on the island. With no electricity, and only a wood stove for heat and cooking.. He actually does remarkably well and is extremely content. H fishes every other day or so and yanks up the crab pots routinly. 2 weeks ago he struck it rich. 5 giant, mamma-sized crabs and 5 lb "chum" salmon. He sent Brian & I home, with dinner for a week! I could get used to this in a heart beat! Last weekend while at Cypress island, the weather turned. Although it was still raining ( just a little) we took off in the GAS HAWG to return home. Jeesh, what a trip. It was "water over the bow" the entire ride home. Windshield wippers flapping side to side trying to keep up with the drenching overspray. White caps and major rip tides to avoid. Brian let me bring the boat all the way in. What a vote of confidence!!. After entering the marine, i asked a simple question... Now, what was that...Character Building, or Skills Building????

July 4 weekend we will spend 4 days ther, our longest stay yet. We've started to pick strawberries, blue berries and raspberries from our back yard garden. The black berries come in Aug. the corn is a foot tall, and the brocclie and tomatoes can soon be picked. Hope everyone is having a grand summer! take care my friends, B&B

and not staying in Minnesota all that long....

My roommate & I packed everything into a storage space and travelled across the country recently. Yellowstone was great. We really enjoyed the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming though - beautilful meadows full of wildflowers! We took our time and arrived a week ago.

Butch (the roomie) moved on to Wisconsin and Indiana to visit friends, but apparently we've both decided that we miss each other more than we thought we would. Time will tell with that one, as of today he's headed back to Minnesota, and eventually the both of us are headed back to Napa.

Minnesota is still as humid a muggy as it always has been (and that's the good weather!) I'll spend some time with family and probably be headed back to good ol CA within a month or so.....

I hope you are all having a nice summer!

Take care,

Carrie

Aloha e na pua'a (hi fellow hogs)

I'm going back home to Hawai'i for a month long vacation. I'm going to be doing what I think I enjoy more than skiing, windsurfing. Ancillary activities include going to my High School reunion and attending my mom's big 75th birthday bash.

Aloha au ia 'oukou a hui hou (Love you all and see you later)

Greetings Hawgs!

Its seems spring flew by altogether too fast for me. In one little ol season my life is yet again making some interesting twists. Leaving the hotel feels bittersweet. I feel some consolation in knowing I leave it better than I found it. My replacement started today and Friday will be my check-out date from the Inn.

My room-mate and I are heading out on Carrie & Bill's big adventure. We're slated to pull out of the wine country on the 12th and head to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone for some camping, fishing, and general irresponsible behavior. I'm looking forward to enjoying the journey. The cats will fly out the following week - they get to fly. I'll be heading through the Black Hills and Badlands in South Dakota after that and preparing for the annual Sundance.

No definite employment plans as of yet, but resumes are a flying. No big hurry. I'll just be playing Auntie and Carrie Godmother for awhile. All my stuff will remain in storage until at least October when Dan and Cassandra get married. After that, who knows. I'm just going with the flow right now. Time to spend some quality time with family who have seen me only during a crisis or in a holiday situation (could that end up being the same thing - hmm.) for the last 14 years.

My friend Jeff has offered to take me in cats and all at his place in Mound off Lake Minnetonka (yes, that's where they make Tonka trucks!).

My Napa friends say that I'm merely going to Camp Minnetonka for the summer.

I could be back before too long. Just because I'm the reigning spoons champ doesn't mean I think I can change the weather! Sheesh! Bill and I have already discussed a possible room-mate arrangement upon my return......

I'll be thinking of all of you and our Mammoth times as I'm once again in the mountains and near hot springs.....Sure wish I would have done that Jackson Hole trip.....better late than never I guess.....

Take care, Suuuuuueeeeeeeeeee!

Love to you all - see you again soon....

Carrie, Siggy & Bert.

The really neet thing about e mail is that you don't necessarily have to have a permanent address to still keep in touch. As long as 'thumbdy@aol.com" is still abble to get through the "AOL" phone lines and log on, we can all keep in touch. A big decision, yes, and hopefully one that will fulfill your dreams. Be safe my friend and Brian and i will keep you and your wonderfully distinct laugh in mind during your travels East. Please keep us in formed!

Love , B&B

Howdy Hawgs:

Had a great time in Mammoth skiing and hanging out with everyone. It was nice to meet new folks as well... On my way home things got real clear for me on what direction I needed to head. The 395 detour sent me east - on both trips - and I took it as a sign. So, I guess I've just made one of the most difficult decisions of my life.

I've decided on relocating back to Minnesota in mid-June. (and every so often I come up with that wonderful "Oh my gosh -- what am I doing? - am I nuts?" anxiety attack moments.) My heart tells me that I need to be there for awhile for family reasons.

I'm moving in time for the Sundance in South Dakota late June seems fitting. I am definitely planning on travel via airliner to Reno (as other hawgs have blazed the trail for me with that...) early each May for Cinco De Mammoth. Some things in my life just can't change. That's that.

Napa feels like home to me now so I don't feel like I'm going "back" home. I've been in California for 13 years now. It seems like just yesterday I moved out here. I must say that I feel I've been abundantly blessed with many great California friends and memories. And you can count on me visiting - especially in the wintertime! I'll even do what I can to make it back for the bike trip later this summer!

I'm missing out on a bunch of other kinds of memories being this far from my nieces and parents, and all of the other relatives I have back there.... I've never been one for regrets......so, here I go.

Carrie
