B&B's BB - some pics - 8/12/99 |
Here's a couple of recent photos of Elliott. He's been walking now for about 8 weeks and has recently figured out that if he picks up the pace he can get away from mommy .... What's so funny is that while he's running forward, he's looking back at me, and frequently runs smack into a chair, a door, a wall. What ever. Oh WAAAA. He recently discovered buckets. When we're outside, he needs his bucket. We walk around the yard putting things in his bucket. At the end of our "yard tour" he has all these treasures. You should see his treasure pile I refuse to allow into the house. Oh WAAAA. A couple afternoons a week we take the wagon down the street to the beach. He usually heads straight for the water. Not wanting to get his shoes wet, 1 afternoon I took them off. There he stood. Refusing to walk to the water. He hated the feel of the pebbles and sand on his tootsies. Oh WAAA. Elliott loves strawberries. Our neighbors have a large garden carpeted with strawberries. We usually walk down there after dinner and pick strawberries. Recently they have become sparse. Yesterday we couldn't find ANY worth eating. Oh WAAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAA. Life sometimes is hard for a 14 month old. I am quickly gaining such an appreciation for what my mom did with raising 9 little "chillins". It's not just for food shopping. The laundry, the constant picking up after, diaper changes, meal times, etc ... What is so amazing to me is that 1 person was able to devote ample quality time to so many. Here I am, a mother to 1. Only 1, and managing the time between work, house, family and Elliott is a challenge. And to think that mom divvied up her day for 9 is amazing. We've been spending our 3 day weekends at the cabin. 2 weeks ago we spent 7 days in a ROW there. An actual vacation. We had a terrific break in the weather and actually got some sun shine. We took full advantage and swung in the hammock, listened to "solar-free radio" and sipped iced tea. In addition we found this wonderful trail that leads over to the other side of the island. We packed Elliott in the back pack along w/ peanut butter sandwiches and a bottle of milk and were off to explore the woods ending up at this delightful clearing with a truly rustic log cabin house built 1920. We stamped down a clearing in the tall grass and ate lunch, allowing Elliott to run around picking wild flowers. He had a terrific time. Elliott flourishes at the cabin. He trots around our house checking out each room corner and screeches in delight at the sight of "Nubbins" the deer who appears promptly at 7 each night looking for a hand out and the sea gulls, eagles and crows that pass over head. When down on the beach he attempts to fit fistfulls of pebbles and rock into his mouth ... No Elliott. Don't eat the rocks. Give it to mommy ... Each evening after Elliott goes to bed, Brian and I sat outside on the deck to watch the lights of the San Juan Island ferry drift by, sip coffee and listen to a BC Blues/Jazz radio station. This was a real vacation.
