B&B's BB - Christmas 1999 |
January 12, 2000 Well, here it is, the start of the new millennium. With all the Christman stuff put away, Elliott still wanders around the living room looking for the tree, sth stockings, the manger and baby Jesus. He just doesn't get it. What? You mean we can't keep these things hanging around the house ALL YEAR long??? Oh WAAAAAA. Brian and I had a marvelous Christman. For a change, I didn't have to work. The morning was spent with coffee, breakfast and present opening by Elliott. At first he didn't quite get the concept of RIPPING paper. He'd pull off the bow and stick it on his head. With a giggle and a smirk on his face, he'd change gears and play with some other old toy ... Unbeknownst to him there was a NEW toy inside the wrapping. After about the 3rd or 4th package something clicked and he lit it RRRRRIPP! It was great fun. Brian nearly hyperventilated when blowing up his new play toys. 1 tiem is a fun school bus filled with 100 plastic balls the size of oranges. The idea is you sit in the buss and roll around in the balls etc. Well, we now have 100 multi colored balls rolling around on the play room floor ... WATCH YOUR STEP! Grampa Dean made a remarkable rocking hourse. Constructed of cherry and walnut, this thing is an heirloom. Elliott, having never ridden, or seen a rocking hourse, sauntered right up to it. Swung his leg over it's rump and jerked the handles forward. He rode that thing like a pro! He just loves it! Yesterday I sat quietly on the staircase secretly watching and listening to Elliott sing to himself while riding "hoursie". (DAA, da DAA da DA, DA, DAAAAA. DDDAA, DA da DA, DE, dda) ... It was a magical moment. We picked up an old pinball machine (circa 1960) as a joint gift. Elliott stands on a chair and pulls back on the plunger and stares back in amazement with BIG WIDE EYES as the ball ricochets back and forth, up and down side to side, creating the array of DING DING DING's KA-Ching, KA Chings ... lights flashing on/off. When the ball eventually ends up in the gutter, he turns to us with the expression of ... WHAT, HUH?? Did I do THAT? The weather has finally turned cold. With the temperatures barely reaching 30 all day we're looking for snow any time. Yesterday a blanket of snow hit Cypress, Burroghs and Orcus Islands. The view over the water with the San Juan Ferry crusing past these snow covered mounds was beautiful. A couple of days ago, we took off towards the hills in search of snow. We packed peanut butter sandwiches and a thermos, ski clothes and the toboggin. Brian & Eliott rode tandom down the short hills. WEEEEE. At the bottom, Elliott would attempt to get out, leaning forward on 1 hand and promptly sinking 2 feet plunging his face into the light snow. Oh WAAAA HAAA, HAAAA, HAAAA. It was a fun playfull afternoon.
