2000
Sept. 28, Thurs.: A few clouds, cool, but not too cold. Almost completely calm. Went by myself, fished by the pipe at the Jetty. A guy was fly fishing on the other side of the pipe, I've seen him there before. I caught my first fish within a half hour, it weighed about 3 lbs. Hooked 2 more, but only landed 1, the other snapped me off before I could put my reel in back-reel. Hooked all 3 throwing a 1/32oz jig, w/o a bobber, (black and white with an olive body) swimming it down deep. Left to come home about 9:30 after no bites in over an hour. The other guy got skunked.
Oct. 4, Wed.: Clear, cool, calm. Went to the Jetty by myself, met a couple of friends there. Fished on the shore side of the pipe. Fishing was SLOW! I caught 1 bird, and had a couple of other hits, but don't know if they were birds or fish. 2 guys next to me caught 1 fish a piece, but all the rest of us, including me, got skunked. Didn't even see any fish cruising shore.
Oct. 18, Wed.: Some high clouds early, clearing a little later in the morning. Cool, but not cold. Some variable breeze, mostly from NE. The light breeze created a good little chop on the water for a while, but it didn't last long. I went by myself to Eagle's Nest. Fished Government Point. I got there about 6:20 or so, still too dark to see. Caught the first fish about 7:30. It was small, about 1 lb. Caught another about a half hour later, about 1-1/2 lb. Both of those hit my jig while it was just sitting there, no chop on the water. Caught one more a little later, that one hit when there was a good chop going, and it weighed 3 lbs, 4 oz. Had a couple of hits I missed. One other guy was out there next to me, he got skunked. All fish caught on 1/32 oz black and olive green jig under bobber about 5 feet. Left to come home at 9:30.
Oct. 28, Sat.: Overcast, cold, windy from SW. Some rain showers, not too heavy. Pete Villa and I went to Eagle's Nest and fished the point first. Great chop going, but the fish weren't exactly jumping on our jigs. It took quite a while before Pete caught the first fish. He caught it on a red jig under a bobber. I caught the next 2, one on a jig (black/grey) and one on a small countdown Rapala. They really wanted to chase the lures, Pete saw one chase his jig up to the rocks, so that's what made me start throwing a Rapala. I had a couple of more hits and hooked one that came off on the Rapala, but about 9:30 I decided to try the bay. I caught one more down there on a black/white jig about 3 feet under a bobber. Pete ended up getting 3 more fish after I left the point. Although we both caught a fish in the 1-1/2 lb range, all the rest were around 3 lbs. Left for home about 11:30.
Nov. 13, Mon.: Mostly overcast, some variable breeze but mostly calm. I left home at 5:00, got to Eagle's Nest about 6:00. Fished government point. Never saw another person out there today, anywhere in the area. I didn't get any bites until almost 9:00, then, after missing a couple that pulled the bobber under, I finally hooked one. It was about 2 lbs. Caught it on a gray/white jig about 3 ft. under the bobber. I had a few more hits but they came when I was warming my fingers, and I missed hooking them. I should have had at least 4 fish, but it was cold, ice in the guides of my rod, and I got caught warming my hands. The moon was almost full, didn't need a flashlight to see, and that could have also been a factor. Slow day, but at least I didn't get skunked.
Dec. 3, Sun.: Foggy till about 10:00. Cold and calm, lake almost glassy most of the time. Dan White and I went to Eagle's Nest and fished Government Point. Got there early and fished till about 11:00. It was pretty slow today, but I did manage to catch 3 on a grey jig, about 4 1/2 feet under a bobber. I also had a couple of other hits that I missed. Dan tried jigs, brown and grey, lures and night crawlers, but had no bites. All 3 fish I caught were around 2 lbs, nothing big. I also threw a shad rap, a countdown rapala, and a crocodile, but only had one hit on the crocodile and no follows. We need a little weather to get things cooking.
Dec.17, Sun.: Mostly clear, but some high clouds. Cold, ice in our guides. Not much of a breeze, but what we did have was out of the north. Pete Villa and I went to government point... got there a little early. There wasn't much chop, but we did manage to get some bites. I caught 3 on a grey jig about 3-4 ft. under a bobber, and Pete got several bites, but couldn't hook any. My largest was 3lb, 8oz. The other 2 were smaller, one around 2lbs, the other smaller than that. Tried rapala's, but no hits or follows. Pete got his bites on a red jig. Nobody else out there, had the place to ourselves.
