Sept. 17, Mon.: Clear, cool, light breeze out of the south, but mostly calm. Went by myself to the jetty, and fished next to the pipe. I left home at 5:30, and got there at just the right time. Threw jigs, my usual, and one I made out of pheasant feathers. Got a hit swimming a jig back without a bobber, and got a couple of hits with a bobber... pulled it down good one time, but I missed it. Some other guys there were catching them on worms under a bobber, and I did see fish chasing minnows. Although I got skunked, it was still nice to be out there for the first time this year.
Nov. 17, Sat.:
Rain showers in the morning, clearing later in the day. Light breeze mostly out of the north. Pete Villa and I went to Government point. We left my house at 5:00, and got out to the point a little after 6:00. I hooked the first fish a little after it got light enough to see my bobber. It was a small one, and came off before I landed it. I hooked another a little while later, and landed that one, 3 lbs. 4 oz. That one is headed for the smoker. I also missed quite a few other bites. Pete gave it a good try, but got only one bite, and missed it... we weren't sure, but it could have been a bird. We left to come home about 10:00. Slow day, not too cold, and much nicer than I like it.
Nov.22, Thanksgiving Day:
Windy from the west, cool, almost cold, big wave action. Paul, Gene and I left home about 5:15 and went to the point at Eagle's Nest. There were already some guys out there, but it really didn't matter. I caught the first fish not too long after getting there, but soon everyone was hooking up. I used a grey, black, olive jig, Paul used a black and white, and gene used an all olive jig he made. I landed 5 out on the point, and had quite a few hits that I missed, as well as another on that came unhooked. I weighed my 2 largest fish, one was 4lbs, 12oz, and the other was 3lbs, 4oz. (I think) Paul landed 2, and Gene 3. I went down into the bay about 8:45 or so, and caught another there. Total for the day, me-6, Paul-2, and Gene-3.
Nov.24, Sat.:
Snow!! Windy from SW, cold, blowing and drifting snow. Traveling was difficult. In fact coming out when we were on our way home was nip and tuck. Started snowing around 12:30am, and kept up till about noon. Paul and his brother Tim followed us up, and Gene rode with me. When we got there, about 6:30, there was about 6" of snow on the ground. When we left, about 10:00, there was over a foot. Fishing wasn't as good as it was on Thanksgiving day, but Gene caught the first fish, and I caught the next one. I got one other out at the point, and Paul got one after Gene and I left to try in the bay. Gene caught 2 more down in the bay, and I got one down there too. Tim got skunked, although he did have one on for a short time. Kind of yukky to be out there, would have been better if the fishing had been better, but we still caught some. We all caught them on the same jigs we used before. Total for the day, me-3, Gene-3, Paul-1.
Dec.16, Sun.: Overcast, breezy, but not too windy, cool early, warming to above freezing before I left. I went by myself to the jetty, and fished by the pipe. I left home at 5:30, and the road, for some reason, was plowed all the way to the lake over Eagle Lake summit. I was going to go to Eagle's Nest, but changed my mind and went to the marina instead. I got there about 6:30, and it was still a little too early to see my bobber, but hardly anyone was there. I caught my first fish about an hour after getting there on my usual jig, without a bobber. I got another a little while later, using a bobber, and 2 others later on using the same rig. Threw a Rapala several times, no hits or follows on that. Pete Villa showed up about 8:00 or so, and he fished with me, but didn't catch any before I left. I left to come home about 11:00. Total for the day- 4, and had another on that came off, and several other bites that I missed. Not too bad.
