2004

Here it is October 26 and I haven't even had any time to get up to Eagle Lake yet this year. I'm still getting wood, but I'll get up there real soon.

October 13- Well, I finally made it up to the lake. Got there (government point) at about 5:45, which was too early to fish. Dan White and Rene' Wood showed up shortly after I got there. I caught the first fish a little later. It weighed about 2 lbs, but I didn't weigh it. It was pretty slow, and nobody caught any more till after the sun got on the water, which usually makes things harder. I got the next one too, maybe 3 lbs. Rene' hooked one finally just before I caught my second one, but she didn't land it. Dan had a few hits, but didn't hook any. It was cold and the northeast breeze came up after 9:00 which made it colder. We all left about 10:00. I got 2 fish, had one break me off, and had a couple more bites, a typical day at Eagle Lake. To check out the largest one I got, click here.

November 11- Overcast, cool, some breeze out of the SW but not too strong. A little light snow on the road coming over the summit, but nothing at lake level. Rodgers Wright and I left town about 5:40. We went to government point. I hooked a fish on the first cast, and, of course thought that would mean something, but as it turned out, it was the only bite anyone got. That fish came undone and I didn't land it. Dan White showed up a little later, and try as we might, we couldn't get any more hits. The conditions were about as good as they get, good chop going, but the fish just weren't cooperating. We even tried going over to the Circus Grounds and tried in the bay at Christie and at the usual spot in the rocks, but nothing there either. Left to come home about 11:30. All of us got skunked on this one.

November 13- Overcast early, but clearing some in late morning. Breezy from the NE. Went out to government point. Good chop going most of the time I was there. I caught my first fish early after missing a couple of bites. (I hooked one that jumped and threw my jig back at me.) The one I landed was small and I didn't play it out, didn't have to. Caught another a little while later that was big enough for the smoker. Had more bites but kept missing them. Went into the bay to try about 9:00 and got one there. All fish caught on my usual jig about 2-3 feet under a bobber. Total landed today- 3.

November 20- Clear, cold, and calm. Rodgers Wright and I went to government point. Nobody there when we got there, but a couple of guys showed up a little later. I finally hooked my first fish quite a while after getting there. It was about 3 lbs. I ended up catching 2 more, and missing a few other bites, but Rodgers got nothing. Slow day..

November 25- Thanksgiving Day Overcast, windy from the SW and rain showers starting around 8:00. Paul Dahlen and I went to government point first, but the slime made it impossible to fish there. We went back into the bay and tried there too, but it was the same way, so we decided to try over at Christie. Not much wave action over there, but just enough for us to get a couple of fish. I caught the first one after missing a bite. It wasn't too big so I let it go. Paul caught the next one and it was a little bigger so he kept it. Water went flat about 9:15 so we decided to go home and get ready for turkey. At least we both got a fish.

November 26- Some fog and low clouds, calm and not all that cold. I met Gene Shannon and his friend Andy out at government point. They were walking up as I was landing my second fish. Water was flat, but no slime. You had to move the bobber a little, and all my bites came right after moving it. Gene and Andy didn't get any fish there, and no bites. Gene tried throwing some lures, but no followers. I ended up catching 3, but it was slow. Left to come home about 9:00.

December 5- Cold, (temp in low 20's), mostly calm but a little variable breeze every now and then. Foggy, but clear above the fog deck as I found out coming over the hill. I got out to the point at 6:30. Caught my first fish about 5 minutes after getting my jig in the water, it was about 3 lbs. Some other guys showed up a little later, and I saw a couple of them hook fish too. It was a little slow, but steady. I didn't miss any bites today, caught all the fish that bit my jig. About 8:45 I hooked a nice one that I wanted to put in the smoker, so I put it on the stringer and that made 2, so I was done. I ended up with a total of 6 today, and I'm sure I would have caught some more, but I really wanted that last one to come home with me, so that's the way it goes. Left to come home about 9:00. Road is snowy coming the back way, but didn't need chains.
