Tough day of fishing, started raining in the night and was very bad up until mid morning. First sunshine was at 5:00 pm
Preacher won for the second time in Outing History! Lucas Cary landed a trophy for the second year in a row while Weatherbee snagged third. Folks were whipped after the outing and only five people were able to celebrate...until the Cavs game was over, then we slept!
Steve Ilg adds Larry Shurhag to his crew, along with Moose and takes top honors! A 33-1/2" musky coupled with a Fish Ohio 24" Saugeye secures Steves place in infamy. The weather was cool, in the 50's and low 60's....a hood on your sweatshirt was often welcome. The wind made working the shorline tough.
The morning was slow as no fish on board at lunch, but things heated up in the afternoon. Lucas Cary caught a 24" musky to secure 3rd and GH landed a 38" musky in Coaltown just 50 minutes before the end of outing to land 2nd. Mucho whisky and scotch were used to crown the new king, who ended the longest drought in SFFC Outing history.
Seifert shatters record for largest musky at Outing!!!
Rainy, blowing, low 50's.....one of the finest fishing days in SFFC Outing history! The activity was heavy, many follows, several muskies on and lost and multiple saugeyes (W'Bee - 25" and Mr. Seif - 18") that never made the board! Once again, partying went heavy the night OF the tourney, to 3:00
Moonie pulls another one out!!!
On one of the most pleasant/beautiful days in SFFC Outing history, What could have been a real dogfight ended up a major disappointment for Red. At 8:00 a.m. Red had a 36" musky in the net, coming into the boat. At 8:01 that musky was back swimming, due to major errors in netting techniques on the pontoon boat. We call it Green Slimes revenge as she wasn't on the water due to restoration.Of course slow fishing or not, Moonie always finds them. Noteworthy is that the heavy partying went until 2:00 a.m. the morning OF the tourney, not the night before.
After sucking hind tit, for eleven years, Weatherbee, with the aid of Captain Chris, finally takes the big one! His 38-1/4" musky grabbed the top spot. The saddest story of the evening was Iggy. After eleven years of never being on the plaque Ig finally landed a qualifying fish! Ig pulled in a 14-1/2" saugeye, good enough to earn him third place, or so he thought. Until Jack arrived at the SFFC, Ig was actually partying to celebrate....but Jack bumped him into fourth place with his two saugeye! A total of 8 qualifying fish were caught, a musky, three saugeye and four bass.
Looked to be the perfect fishing day! Overcast, highs in the upper 60's! But the water was very high and the shorelines were muddy which added up to only two qualifying fish. Weather changed often, in one fifteen minute period we went from no shirt to teeshirt to teeshirt & a sweatshirt!!
Damn, was it cold and rainy!!!! High 40's, lower 50's. Heavy rains started about 4:30 and did not quit until end of outing. Only three idiots still casting trying to take crown from Preacher at end of day. Siffrin-Hoyt and their trusty companion, Red. A total of eleven fish were caught and released. Five bass (12" - 15-3/4") and three muskies (40-1/4"-40"-39").
Morning started beautiful. Reached high of 80. Major storm blows through at 4:00 p.m., as per Paul Clows "tornadic weather forecast". Actually hails and for the first time, fisherman come off water to get out of weather. Second bad storm at 8:00 pm. Still a great day, without suntan lotion, you were toast! A total of seven fish were caught and released. Five bass (12"- 14") and two muskies (36" & 13").
Major storm blows through at 3:00 a.m., morning of outing. Cold and rainy at 6:00 a.m. Sun peaks through mid morning and low seventies in afternoon. Although many foot long bass were caught it was a tough day of fishing. A total of twenty-two fish were caught and released at the 2000 outing. Twenty bass (all 12"-13") and two muskies (39" & 14").
Brrrrr!! Temperatures in the fifties along with gusting winds made for a cold day! A total of five fish were caught and released at the 1999 outing. Three bass (all 12") and two muskies (36" & 41-1/2").
Hot, hot, hot!! 88 degrees! A total of three fish were caught and released at the 1998 outing. Two bass (16-1/4" and 12") and one 12" crappie. Our egos were wounded!
Cold weather, wind chill was below freezing. A total of seven fish were caught and released at the 1997 outing. Four muskies (37-1/2", 36", 30-1/2" and 24") were caught and three bass averaging 13-5/8".
Terrible storms at 6:00 a.m. Cleared into decent day mid-morning. A total of nine fish were caught in 1996. Six muskies (37-1/2", 36-1/2", 36", 35", 35" and 34") were caught and three bass averaging 14-3/8".
Very warm, pleasant day. Only one qualifying fish was caught in 1995, a 37" musky!
"Dinner time after the 1994 outing"
Good weather, warmed up in middle of day. A total of three fish were caught in 1994. One 36-1/2" musky and two bass averaging 14-5/8".
Perfect fishing day, high in low seventies. Morning was chilly. A total of 17 fish were caught in 1993. One 24" musky and 16 bass averaging 14-1/2" were caught
The official date of the 1999 SFFC Spring Outing will be May 14! Official start time, as in the past, will be 6:00 a.m. Outing ends at 8:30 p.m. Entry for each person will be $10, which goes toward dogs/burgers for lunch and dinner that day and buying and engraving the trophies. If any balance is left the distribution will be 2/3 to first place and 1/3 to second place. All rules are the same as the past, a qualifying fish must be 12" and Fish Ohio counts double. Measurements are to the closest 1/4". DO NOT MENTION THE WORD "TOURNAMENT" TO ANY MARINA OR OFFICIAL TYPES OR YOUR ENTRY FEE GOES UP TO $100, THIS IS AN OUTING, NOT A TOURNEY!!!!
1997 food consumption was 30 hamburger patties, 16 quarter pound dogs and 15 regular dogs. Lots of chips were left over. Not much interest in sweets. One large onion and three tomatoes are plenty. Chip beef the night before was hammered. Cheese for burgers worked well. A pint of Black Velvet on board seemed to make the day more enjoyable.
As in the past, measure your fish to the closest 1/4" and you must take a photo of fish. Any fish 12" or over qualifies. Fish Ohio is double. Outing begins at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m.
