What an exciting week! The kindergartners graduated to first grade. My nephews, Christian and Jacob had a graduation party last Sunday. Jacob got a new bike.

Josiah attended a graduation party yesterday at his aunt's house. He got a new bike, too.

"Mom, can I go outside and ride my bike in the driveway," Josiah asks.

Joyce hesitates and then agrees, "Okay, but stay out of the road."

Josiah mounts the bike and careens down the driveway. When he gets to the end, he turns around and rides back. Down and back. Down and back. After a few times of this, his enthusiasm gets the best of him and he swings too wide and makes a circle into the road.

"My aunt's house is far from town. I don't see why I can't ride on the road, " Josiah thinks.

"Josiah," Joyce yells from the door, "Stay out of the road or else you can't ride your bike anymore."

"Okay, Mom," he yells back.

Down and back. Down and back. Josiah is content to ride in the driveway for a little while longer.

"I'm going a little too fast this time," Josiah thinks to himself, "I don't think I can turn around without going out on the road."

Josiah never saw the car that hit him. He died on the way to the hospital.
