The 8 mile Middlesex Fells Skyline Trail has gross elevation gain of 1500 ft.
The half mile side trip to Bear Hill increases the gain to 1600 ft.
Low hills are a distinguishing characteristic of the Middlesex Fells. The 140 foot climb from the Bellevue Pond area to the top of Pine Hill is the largest on the Fells Skyline Trail.
