Flintknapping is the working of flint stone, the
process involved in making an arrowhead. It's something I love
to do in my spare time. I got involved in this hobby quite a few years back. I learned it takes alot of practice, its not quite
as easy as you may think, and sure is hard on the fingers and knuckles. Here are some points i have knapped out recently, in the last month or so. The first pic is of a large spearhead I made from rainbow obsidian. Obsidian is a volcanic glass that
is terrific to chip, this certain type of obsidian turns some funky colors of grey when shone in bright light...kinda like
a tiger's eye stone. This arrowhead below I made recently...kinda odd shaped, guess I was
feeling real sci-fi that day or something. This is made of regular black obsidian.
This one is made from rainbow obsidian too, the same piece of stone that made the first one..this one is kinda goofy shaped too. Okie dokie...well..well,
I ran out of material to chip some weeks back...and so I found
a broke thick piece of broken glass, so I chipped this arrowhead out
of it..its not bad looking, kinda surprised me. Hey, when your out of rock..let me
tell you something you can pound a point out of that works
great!!!..this one is made of a busted TV picture tube..(I work
on tv's and had loads of them laying around)..almost unlimited supply here..this stuff chips out very sweetly, give it a try.
