Troop HistoryBoy Scout Troop 82 began as a contingent Troop from the Tennessee Valley Council, Alabama to the 1985 National Scout Jamboree. During 1985, 36 Scouts from various Troops in the Council formed this unit and began preparing for the Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia. The Scoutmaster selected by the council for this Troop was Mr. R. Waldrip. Troop 82 was disbanded upon return from the Jamboree and the members returned to their parent Troops. Recognizing the need for another Troop to serve the southeast Huntsville area, Mr. Waldrip and a group of concerned parents, with assistance from the Chickasaw District, sought sponsorship for a new troop. In October 1985, All Saints Lutheran Church agreed to sponsor the unit now known as Troop 82 and a Charter was granted. Mr. Waldrip was selected to serve as the first Scoutmaster. In 1987, the Unit Leadership recognized the need for a broader base from which to draw new members and, in September of that year, sponsorship of Troop 82 was transferred to Willowbrook Baptist Church.
