Posted October 05, 1998 (details from Kalayaan , The Monthly Newspaper of the Philippine Independence Centennial, Volume 3 No. 10, p. 7)
Pilipinas '98, the Philippine Centennial Invitational International Philatelic Exhibition will run from November 5 to 9 at the Megatrend Hall 5th Floor , Building B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. General Nicasio P. Rodriguez, Jr., Postmaster of PhilPost formally launched the exhibition last September 8, 1998 at the Kalayaan Hall 1 of Club Filipino.
The philatelic exhibits celebrates the century of friendship among the Philippines, Spain, Mexico and the United States with the focus on the development of intercultural and historical relationships. It is also envisioned to help create awareness of Centennial events, including the 100th Anniversary of the Philippine Postal Service as well as the centennial anniversaries of several government institutions, like the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Philippine Navy.
PILIPINAS '98 also includes competitive exhibits by local and foreign participants, an on-the-spot stamp design contest, seminar-workshop / audio-visual presentation on philately, a SelyOlympics, a stamp exhibition contest among school youths nationwide
All the previous issues of the bulletin, which have been posted herein and also with the on-going project of a news bulletin have been transformed into The Philippine Philatelist, a news-magazine online. Thus, instead of updating two of the same, I have collated the news into one section. Note: the section uses frames, which I am experimenting on.
Aside from the current events in Philippine Philately, the following issues are also discussed in the e-zine:
Philately and the Internet:
The use of Internet resources in Stamp Collecting.
Who's Who in Philately:
A short biographical essay on who's who in philately.
What do I need?:
Things you need to start and enjoy your hobby.
When was that?
Historical notes on stamp issues and philatelic events.
Why the Word?
The etymology of words used in philately.
How do I do that?
The simple explanation of stamp collecting activities.
