Stardate: July 15, 1999 Thursday Location: Anaheim
Today marks the Arrival of Morrigan, Trunks
Morrigan: Yatta! The day before AX99....talk about excited! I was very eager to meet everyone from the ML! I have everything ready, all cosplay is set..except for one. The most important one...Morrigan. I was hoping that it would look good. I worked on the wire frames for the wings very long...my effort should be rewarded right? My seamstress is going to make it perfect....right? Well, I started my morning going to Summer School. How could I go to school? I was way to excited about leaving to San Diego... especially knowing that I would be in AX99 soon ^_^ Well, school was boring and blah, so I decided to ditch the last class ^_^. Why not, I already have an A in both classes!! Besides, we had no work that day ^_^ After my one wonderful class, I went to my seamstress's house to check up on Morrigan. Well she did it alright...a very bad cosplay outfit! Heh, would you imagine my shock when I saw it? "ACK!!! What did you do!!!" (I felt like saying that...but I didn't) Ruined...it was all ruined... My hard work was destroyed in a matter of minutes... The wings were ugly, and my bodice was as well. She still had to make her "adjustments" to the outfit... -_-' Well, I got there at 12:00pm and she finished at 4:00pm...My flight left at 4:45!!!! So I took the Blah costume with a fake smile, and we left to the airport! Never again....I will make Morrigan next year sooo much better! After much crying and crazy driving, we made it to the airport. Saying my good bye's, I left my Mom..and got on the plane. *sigh* What will I do about Morrigan? Can I cancel it? That was all I could think about on the plane.. An hour or so later, I arrived in San Diego to meet my Father. It was nice to see him! I haven't seen him since last summer...heh. Little did I know that I was headed strait to a mini hell... Blah! We went out to eat in Little Italy, (a place in San Diego) which was pretty good. I explained to him about Morrigan...and he said nothing...not even a little, "You will do OK". We then arrived home and I decided to make a little phone call. Heh, yep, I called Trunks...I couldn't do Morrigan...Blah! Oh well...I had to bring it anyways... -_-' Now it was off to sleep..for I had to wake up early to leave for Anaheim...what a day!
Trunks: Thursday. Ah. Thursday. Maybe it's time I start working on the gigantic Blodia Punch prop, ne? So at about 10 AM I head out to pick up some black and red spray paint and set up the garage for some serious cardboard prop work. While I was out, I picked up the local newspaper for the oneliner from my interview for pre-Expo. There was a slight problem with how I wanted to change 4 boxes into one big prop, and how to change something 3D into something 2D, but I managed, with alot of tape and masking tape for painting. And there was the little matter of transporting the darn thing, so collapsability (telescoping half and a folding half) and a handle were added as well. Some three hours later in my backyard, Blodia Punch was finished to my liking and I folded it up and left it there. I need to wait for certain people to arrive. First call. Chun Li is within range now. "Ha ha, very cute answering machine message, Wayne. I'll call back at 9 PM to discuss where to meet." Tenchi arrives at the house at 3 PM, and I set him up with supplies to complete/remake part of his Light Hawk Armor costume. We decide that he would not fit well in the current skit so he will now be a walk on entry in the masquerade. Second call. 4 PM. Henry's in the neighborhood now, and staying at the Anaheim Marriott. Perfect. Grabbed the Blodia punch for storage and dragged it, along with Benimaru and the Aoi Satan gear to the Marriott. Henry when he first saw Blodia Punch: "What the hell is that?" Course I didn't tell 'im what it was, just sort of let him flounder around and guess but he never did. Checked out Orphen's blade and the gunblade which I have been coaching him on for the past 2 weeks and was very happy with the results. I drove him around to get supplies, first stop. Michaels for foam, paper and sculpey. Lucky for Henry, the next stop was a closing down Homebase, with 10% off the entire store (duct tape and a telescoping sword handle were the purchases there). Final stop was Sport Mart for painful athletic tape for his Sanosuke. Dropped him off and then returned home for a quick dinner. And then? Back to the Hilton with Tenchi in tow for ....ick. Prereg waiting. We got there at 8 PM sharp. In a few minutes, I had changed to Orochi Chris for visibility and for the reason that I knew I'd probably not get a chance to wear him at another time. And we ended up halfway thru the second turn of the line. The goddesses showed up about 9 ish, and we really hadn't moved all that much. Poor Henry was in the reg line, all by himself but he came by every once in a while to check. I handed off a cutting blade to him so he could do some costume work. Come 11 PM, we finally get our badges. Cowboy Bebop designs. AX really needs cutesy laminated badges like at Fanime. But let me pick the design please. And then, before the goddesses knew it (because they wanted me to see the room), Tenchi and I scurried off to work on Jin and Tenchi some more at home. Gawd, I hate working with leather. At home. Third call. A very distressed Claudia. I will need to do damage control tomorrow. Fourth call. Chun Li will give me a call once she's in Anaheim on Saturday.
Stardate: July 16, 1999 Friday
Anime Expo, Day 1
Trunks: Friday. 9:30 AM, went over to the Marriott to bring Aoi Satan over to the Hilton, and was dressed in half Aoi gear. Must have had to set aside 3 picture requests since I was only half in costume. 10 AM was the designated meeting time. The water fountain was the designated meeting place. At about 10:15 I was approached by a gorgeous blonde and her dad! Yay! Claudia did put on her Maria costume. Her blue pinstripe business suit looked just like the one Maria wears in Sakura Taisen 2. My little mafia girl. *grin* But she needed to get a badge so she went to file in line while I changed into the rest of the Aoi gear. Made multiple visits to the dealer room and the masquerade registration to get things in working order while waiting for Claudia to get her badge. She had the cutest uzi with her that made funny little gun noises and animated. I also got to see her collection of Claudia fan art! Very good. During the wait, I managed to get pictures with Japanese cosplayer Luke (in Cutey Honey and Sailor Uranus costumes) and exchanged homepage URLs. Also called up Lisa to see how Kanna was coming along and she was in preparations for that. It was a virtual aggravation trying to get the entire Hanagumi together, especially since we were without Oogami for a long time since Henry was still in Orphen gear at 2 PM. Oh, 1 PM was lunch time, and most of the Hanagumi were eating at the local diner, while I had pizza and was waiting for Lisa to come down. I finally just set down 3:30 PM. Fountain. Hanagumi full picture shot. So I could get out of the Aoi costume before I fainted and maybe, just maybe get a chance to wear a different costume on Friday. (not to mention restore circulation to the brain). Grrrr. Did I mention that AX security wanted to peace bond my Aoi Satan swords? I never got that problem at Akon. Duh, I made them look fake for a reason instead of using real katanas. Oh well. I can get around this little set back. *grin* Shopping with Maria in the meantime. She picked up some Kinki Kids (big surprise!) I didn't find what I was looking for. She had her eye on a Pen Pen for $12, but she would pick it up tomorrow. It wasn't until about 4 PM that we finally got all the members, and many flashes later, Aoi was free!
Friday Evening. Well not yet. I took Claudia up to sign her name on my masquerade sign up sheet. Then, Claudia went to change out of Maria into Bulleta, while I went to the World of Anime panel. Halfway thru, I just couldn't take it anymore and I needed to get rid of my headband. So I dashed up to room 7426 to change. Wai Wai! Allie was changing into Shermie! And Henry brought Yashiro! I was going to get my New Faces Team after all! Course, I couldn't find my Chris boots, so I made due without. I was having major problems with Chris' straps, and I eventually lost one of em. Grrrrr. Irreplacable since I don't have any of that material anymore. So Chris is down for repairs after AX. Because of grrrrrr, other reasons, I couldn't stay past 7 PM on Friday, which means I lost out on the dance and the end of the karaoke contest. So we quickly snapped up shots of New Faces Team and I had to zip out of there. *sigh* Oh well. Back home to assist with Light Hawk Armor Tenchi again. Ah, maybe it would be nice for me to do the soundtrack to Capcom Double Date Drama too. I did that from 10PM to 11PM straight from the computer, with minor set backs like annoying background sounds getting in the way. Also, I didn't get the return call from Chun Li, so I had to backtrack and find out just where she was. (Disneyland) But I found out her hotel from an old E-mail and sent her a couple of phone messages to find out just what was going on. She called back at about 1 AM and we discussed plans for heh, today (Saturday). Meet at 2:30 PM for rehearsals. And in the daytime, she'd go out to get supplies to finish costumes such as her white belt and Vega's claws. I didn't want to put up with making another set of claws so I told her I'd bring over a set of Mousse's claws tomorrow with white thread, needles and other last minute supplies.
Morrigan: Wake up at 5:00! Eeep! Soo early..but we had to beat the traffic. I got ready and into my first cosplay..Maria Tachibana. This was a last minute cosplay put together. Heh, all I had to do was wear my wig and put my Pin Stripe suit, my trench coat would be provided by Trunks at AX. Alright, we left the house at 6:30 AM to arrive at Anaheim hopefully before 10:00 AM. We barely made it...because my Father got us lost!! Blah! Arriving at our hotel, we dropped everything off and ran to the Convention Center. I don't think a lot of people knew who I was...but that was the least of my worries!! I found Trunks waiting for me at the water fountain, just like we had agreed. Heh, he was in semi Aoi Satan cosplay. After a big hug and "Hello", we proceeded to go get my Badge. The line was HUGE!!!! I waited in that line for about 2 or 3 hours...ack! Pre Regestered was mixed in with everyone else too...blah! Trunks had to leave, so I stayed in the L O N G line. While waiting, I met Robert and Marie, the two newest ML recruits. They were very fun and sweet to talk with. Heh, sure gave us something to do while waiting! I also ran into Henry, Andre, Widya and Mack...they were with Wayne. Great, more ML people! ^_^ Then they had to leave again..heh. After FINALLY getting my badge, I met up with Trunks again as well as Tiffany and Ashley. Well, now to walk around the dealers room with Trunks. It was sooo...heh...not what I expected. Well, this was my first year at AX....and I was used to SDCC...so everything seemed small. Well, the dealers room anyways -_-' But it was still good. I did get to meet Allie also, she was dressed as Sumire. With Trunks as Aoi Satan now, we got a bit of pictures taken. I got to buy KinKi Kids CD's too! ^_^ I really wanted to get out of Maria!! Blah...my heels were killing me.. -_-; One thing that did depress me a little, other then Morrigan, was all the great Japanese cosplayers! They were so very gorgeous and their cosplay was great!! I was in awe...wish I could look as good as they did ^_^ After a lot of walking, Trunks and I split to go eat. We were to meet along with the other Hanagumi at the water fountain. Yatta! I finally got some rest, as well as food ^_^ We ate in the convention center..pretty expensive. Following our meal, we went to meet the Hanagumi. It took a while but everyone made it! ^_^ I got to meet our last Hanagumi member, Lisa. She was a great Kanna...perfect! Oh, and we had the BEST Hanagumi you could ever imagine! Tee hee hee..I am sure that ever the Japanese Cosplayers would have liked us ^.^ Aside from good, we were also the most un proportioned height Hanagumi...tee hee hee, cannot be helped. So during pictures, Kanna and I stood on the benches to look taller *_* A lot of people attacked us with pictures too...yatta! After our pictures...it was time to change!! Yes!!!! I was a very happy girl...heh, I limped back to my hotel to change into Bulleta. I have to say, Bulleta was my Favorite cosplay...tee hee hee
Why, do you ask? Well...lets just say it was Bloomer flashing, gun wielding, pictures taking fun! Now it is off to the Karaoke contest! I was very excited about this!!! My song was going to be the Dragon Half theme...very fast. When I got there, I saw the the KOF group was ready ^_^ Allie, Trunks, and Henry looked great!! They got alot of pictures too ^_^ Then it was time for me to go on Karaoke. Ack! I was really nervous...eep.. I knew that my voice was horrible...but screw it! I was there to have fun. The moment I was on to Karaoke, I flashed my Bloomer ^.~ tee hee hee, at least it got some cheap laughs! I sand my song with all the energy I had left...and nothing would get in my way. Whether it was jumping, giggling, flashing, winking, or twirling...I was going to make the most out of my "Stage" time! At least I got a good applause when I finished,...tee hee hee Then I found out that my voice wasn't heard very well due to cheap mic's! BLAH!! That was sooo evil! Oh well..I wasn't expecting to win, just be noticed...well, not like anyone could forget a Little Red Ridding Hood with guns. ^_^ Unfortunately, my Ouji Sama missed my preformance, as well as Gina and Mack -_-; I missed Henry's preformance too...gomen! Though, I did see Tiff! She has the most beautful voice!! Kirei~na! Then the absolute worst thing happened...a pretty, asian girl got up to sing the song I did. She did a lot better then I did...heh talk about blah! Self esteem went down 99.9%.....but I had something she didn't! Bloomers...that I could flash! So that cheered me up ^.~ After a 30 minute intermission, they announced the ones who would follow to the second round...not me. Though that girl who did the sale song I did made it...heh. I couldn't help but feel bad..I felt like a soar loser...but screw it~! I had fun and that's what counts!!! What did shock me was that Tiffany did not win,...how could that be?! A lot of people who I wanted to win didn't win...Blah! Well, now that Trunks had left...we just went to the "dance". As I expected, it was late, just like the Karaoke. Though this girl who was at Karaoke did boost my self esteem up a bit. She told me that I should have won instead of that girl, and that she though the Karaoke was rigged...heh, I couldn't help but feel a little better! That was very nice of her to say!! Nothing was happenening at the Dance...so I decided to leave..that is, after I got a picture of a very attractive Heat! ^_^ On my way out, I ran into more Japanese Cosplayers...AKA Barbie and Nomi. Thay actually came up to me...Yatta! "Ah! Bu-Re-Ta Chan! Atashi cho Kawaii!!" That boosted my self esteem up even more ^_^ Especially when they asked for my picture..as well as a picture with them! Yatta Yatta! Now to head to the hotel...it was a very long day...and Saturday would be even longer!! -_-' I enjoyed it very much, especially meeting my Ouji Sama!
Chun Li: The time has come....say good-bye to the beautiful mountains,
the crisp fresh air, the peacefulness of Scotts Valley.
This chapter of my life is over.
We're off to muggy, polluted and noisy L.A.!!!!
My plan:
Leave Scotts Valley by 6am, get to Anaheim by noon.
Grab out Anime Expo badges then have a quick meeting
with Wayne. Head off to Disneyland and meet up with my
friends Annie and george. Then go back to the hotel
and have a gooooood relaxing night's sleep.
NOT!
What Happened:
We woke up late...2 hours late! After hurridley
packing our things up, Lodi and I finally hit the
road. While I stared at the endless pavement, shoving
slow drivers out of my way, my mind grumbled about all
the problems we were having.
1) Mom called last night. Tita Mellie was still not
done making the Vega costume, and the masquerade is in
2 days! She'll bring our costumes and meet up with us
in Anaheim.
2) That still leaves us with the rest of the costume
to make. Vega needed his shoes, stockings, wig and
claw gloves. I needed to make a new belt because my
sister broke my original one. *sigh*
3) Tried getting a hold of Wayne but he wasn't home.
Left a message on his answering machine. We need to
plan a time to meet up and practice our skit. Ack!
Finally, after 6 hours of butt aching driving, we
reach the Westcoast Anaheim hotel. After dumping our
stuff in our rooms and taking a short rest, we head on
over to the Hilton to pick up our badges. So many
people! I could feel the rush of excitement running
through my veins as I see cosplayers walking around.
After getting our badges (not as pretty as the Fanime
ones *pout*) off we go again to head back to our room.
I thought I saw Wayne with a bunch of other people in
costumes taking pictures, but I wasn't too sure. So
rather than make a fool of myself, I kept quiet.
Back in our room, I collapse on the bed exhausted,
more from the worrying than from driving.
What are we gonna do? Should we go buy stuff for your
costume or go to Disneyland? In the end, Lodi and I
decide to go to meet my friends at Disneyland. It was
already 4pm.
And so for the rest of the night, we pranced around
the wonderful world of Disney, trying to get as much
rides as possible. And all that time, I would try and
NOT think about the masquerade, the unfinished
costumes and all the other worries.
Finally the day has ended. The worries rush back as we
crash for the night. It was already waaaaay past midnight,
should I call Wayne? Yeaaaa, sure why not. I hope he
won't be too mad for calling so late.
Ring. Ring.
"*grumble* Hi Jaymie."
"Waaaaaaaaayne! How did you know it was me?"
"Cos I'm psychic. No, really, No one else will call at this time. I was expecting
you."
Whew, thank goodness. And so we made plans to meet
tomorrow. I told him how we needed to go get supplies
then meet up with friends at Universal City, so we set
a time for 1pm. After hanging up the phone, I called
my Mom. Her, my sister and my cousins were staying at
the hotel accross the street. And so another plan was
to stop by early morning and pick up our costumes.
There. It's all settled and planned out. With a
relieved sigh, I cuddle up next to my sweetie and fall
into a deep dreamless sleep.
Stardate: July 17, 1999 Saturday
Anime Expo, Day 2
Trunks: Saturday Morning. Meeting Claudia again at 10 AM. But I had to dash up to turn in the soundtrack tape I wanted to use to the masquerade people first. Just in time. Bolt back down and Misato sez: "Where's Shinji?!?!?!" So up to 7426 to get the dress shirt and then to 14506 for the rest of this super elaborate and complex costume. Well since Aoshima anyway. But with me being tired and expressionless, I make the perfect Shinji Ikari. Mack and the goddesses knew I would be doing a skit with Claudia, and figured that I was doing an Evangelion skit. So Claudia and I of course played along, hinting here and there that they might see a plugsuit Shinji at the masquerade. *evil grin* So slowly I trod back down to Misato and off to the dealers room! While in the dealers room, the sequence of events was. "Wow! Misato! Can I take a picture?" -> Misato grabs Shinji-kun. -> "Oh, you have a Shinji too!" -> Put purchased items down and bags down -> Pose -> Snap -> Start all over again. We got Claudia her very own Pen Pen. Evil though, they raised the price from $12 to $15. Doubly evil, her first Pen Pen had two left arms! Can't have that. (We had a picture with that one too before we realized it) But a quick exchange and she was a happy Misato. She also bought some posters for friends, and I was flipping thru keychains, since I need to get a certain one. But I got a Souchan pencil board. So I at least bought something. But all other things I was looking for, were not to be found! We had to get Claudia some glue, and were highway robbed when we had to pay $5, for a bottle of superglue. 2:30 PM deadline coming up so I wanted to change to Soujiro Seta mode while I still had a chance. Another double trip from 7426 and 14506 to change. Streamlined Soujiro was put on even though I can't tie a hakama worth anything. Claudia went to change to demonic Asuka mode. I zipped into the dealers room to intercept the Hameln group and got caught. But just as fast as I came in, I zipped out to get the right meeting time. But they prolly didn't notice I was missing for the longest time. While leaving the dealers room, Souchan was apprehended by a Misao for a picture, and I apprehended Luke's Psylocke for a picture. Then ran into Squall (Henry) and decided it would be best to retrieve Blodia. Soujiro got some real darling pictures up in 614, but Poor Souchan! He had to lug Blodia Punch all the way back down to the Hilton.
Saturday. With impending rehearsal, I changed out of Soujiro into plain clothes and waited at the appointed meeting place at 2:30. No one until 2:40, when Claudia showed up and Chun Li showed up short of breath at 2:50. We all filed into her car to go to her room at the West Coast Anaheim, room 1008 to rehearse. While I was setting up rehearsal, I dropped one of their to-be-Vega-claws from the 10th floor balcony. ^^;. And we established that the skit would fit the 2 minute time limit. But we were far from complete. I got a room key and Chun Li and Vega set off to get shoes, stockings, a wig, and other assorted stuff. I left to get Mousse's claw, and the Jin costume. We had planned to be ready by 5 for craftsmanship judging. Morrigan still needed wing trim, bats and the eternal slumber curtain secured. So I made two trips to the car to get my Jin costume and supplies, while I dropped off some sandals for Tenchi and let him run off and be independent. Yes, I did retrieve that claw part I dropped back when. Ah, Tacky Glue was what we used to fix up the Eternal Slumber Curtain. We should have used Heat N Bond, but didn't have any on hand or the time to iron it on. Claudia was stressed about the wings and she had to cannibalize on of the printed out pictures of Morrigan to make a pattern. It was 4:45 PM when Chun Li and Vega returned from their shopping trip so I trekked out to pull ourselves out of the craftsmanship judging. The Hameln group was a little concerned that they were all in costume judging for Craftsmanship while I was still in plain clothes. Ah no matter. Back to 1008 in the West Coast Anaheim. I actually had part of the Jin costume on already, the waist wrap that he has around his waist. But no one can see it since I had my AGSMA team shirt on at the time. Anyways, when I came back, Chun Li was putting the finishing touches on her belt and Vega was almost all done, and just needed to strap on Mousse's claw. Masking tape! Hardly what I would use but he would sacrifice for the cause! (Poor Lodi, he has hairy arms too) 5:30 rolling around and Chun Li and Morrigan were starting to manifest. I thought it would only take a few minutes to get into Jin gear but ran into unexpected problems with the ankle guards and right knife holder. Oh I love my 10 lb test fishing line *hug*. I left early to make the 6 PM deadline and I also had to lug the gigantic Blodia fist prop from the car. That thing was more convenient than it could have been, but still a chore to transport. And heavy. While I was passing thru the public area, Ray from World of Anime actually recognized that it was me in the Jin outfit. When I get there, I see the mediocre stage with no curtains to hide props. I would need to plant that thing on stage! Grrrrrr. So I extended it to half it's normal size and started with the tape for some reinforcements. Where are the heck is the rest of my team? I could have sworn they were right behind me. What's taking them so long? It was not until I arrived as Jin with the big box that it dawned on Henry and Mack of my master plan for AX. Marvel vs. Capcom.
Saturday Evening. The rest of the Hameln group was clueless tho. Allie: "Just who are you supposed to be?" Tiff: "Oh god, look at those spikes, you know who he could be next year?" Ash: "Hey Wayne, would you like to be this S&M bondage guy from Hameln next year? You'd be perfect!" O_O. Excuse me? Bondage guy? Ash: "Yeah! His name is Vocal! Very powerful and ---evil----. I know you like that. And he wears alot of spikes and leather, and is always chewing on this ball and chain." ^^; hee hee ummmm yeah, sure. *zip out* I was absolutely estatic tho when I went over to Nomi and her crew and she immediately recognized me. Wai Wai! Nomi: "Something I can't understand....Sai-ber-botso....Something I can't understand" But they know me to be from Cyberbots! Wai Wai Wai! Tenchi was nicely situated as entry 33, while the Capcom skit was entry 11. I was happy that I would be able to actually see most of the skits. With the entire team around, we took plenty of pictures and chatting before the 8 PM start time! We were all psyched and ready to go! Oops, someone forgot the curtain! So we sent Claudia's dad to retrieve it. It was great he brought it back before 8. What was bad was the two hour delay that was to follow due to "sound difficulties". Oh tell me about it! Hungry, cranky, tired of waiting, just to get the live feed up. I thought it would be better than AX98, but no. It was almost an exact replay. Sitting in the area waiting and waiting and waiting. We couldn't even sneak out for the pre-masquerade COSP ML picture due to "restrictions" as Widya stated. Fast forward alot of ranting to 10 PM, which rolls around and they finally start. We conveniently find a white rose for Vega to toss at Chun Li, just lying around. Probably old Hilton display trim. *grin* Voice actor Akira came by and took a picture with our Morrigan. It wasn't until later that I told her that she took a picture with a guest. She just thought it was some "person" coming thru. *nod nod* laugh!
Saturday Night. At skit #10, I planted the Blodia fist on stage left as planned. And Chun Li brought on the folded Eternal Slumber curtain on stage right, as planned. I was so happy there was a positive audience response when Widya read out "Anything Goes School of Masquerade Arts" in our MC intro. Jin got center stage, turned his back to the audience and waited for the music to start. And waited. And waited. "Music? Anyone? Music?" I could detect alot of flash photography going on with my back to the audience. I don't know what the rest of the team was thinking, but I was thinking....AX98 ALL OVER AGAIN! Where they messed up our soundtrack! Fine! We're doing this acapella! So with a jump and determination, I turn around and start the skit. No remote microphone, so I had to grab one of the mics off the stand to prevent the replay of not being able to hear our conversation. I almost tripped myself with the wire, but caught myself and corrected it. Otherwise, it was a flawless production of our skit. All four of us hit all our lines, and all our special effects worked without a hitch. Including Blodia Punch which made me very happy that it held together for the skit. And just in time too, since when we tried to remove it after the skit was over, it fell apart. Ah, I love writing my own scripts. As Hannibal from the A-Team would say, "I love it when a plan comes together." We went backstage to the photo op area where we were greeted by one or two photo people. Not the 30 or so at SDCC, but I guess it's an improvement. All the props were left in the waiting area so I'd have to retrieve them later. We sat down right in front of Lisa and Brian from their stunning Metal Gear Solid costumes. I couldn't touch the left side of my face for the longest time due to the lipstick Morrigan had gotten on me from the skit. The pure Bust A Move skit went smoothly. The Hameln skit seemed to have a slow musical cue start but they managed on and put on a great show. Princess Fireball had a very solid skit, quite well done for last minute ideas, as was Henry's Orphen skit. I was very happy that it turned out. Poor Henry, a second skit where he is dusted by Pikachu again. Tenchi's walk on went on without a hitch. During one of the skits, Brian let out a well placed burp. It was hilarious! I couldn't help busting up. While waiting for the judges to decide (about another hour) we were entertained with a voice talent demonstration (much better than watching CG rendered animations all that time) I disappeared to retrieve our stage props and last minute supplies. In my costume, I wasn't worried about the high AC going off, but poor Meryl (Lisa) was getting cold so I had her borrow my scarf, and Claudia used my arm as her scarf to keep her warm.
Stardate: July 18, 1999 Sunday
Anime Expo, Day 3
Trunks: Sunday Early Morning. Ah, it's Sunday already and the masquerade isn't done! Claudia and I are going to miss karaoke! ARRRRRR! Congrats to the Hameln team who won 3rd place in the awards! After the awards we decided we just had to take even more pictures, with our props and re-enactments. But. Other people thought it was a good idea too, even though I thought they were distracted by the winners. So they all came over it seemed. There were alot of, can I take a picture with Chun Li/Morrigan? Heh, no one wants to take a picture with Jin or Vega. And we got full pictures with Eternal Slumber and Blodia Punch so I could back those up. The scarf choking picture seemed to take forever though as the flashes would not end as I was trying to get air. But I think we got all possible combinations that we needed and tried to scurry off many a time, but were stopped many a time. I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of the Hameln group since they dispersed already. Nor Orphen or any of the other ML members. Even when we tried to split up as Morrigan Jin and Chun Li Vega, the girls would get stopped and eventually the group was put back together for group shots. We finally made it OUT of the masquerade hall and Wendell from World of Anime caught us. I owed him an interview so we took the time out to give him a nice interview. We were pretty much homefree when we got to the escalators. Chun Li and Vega parted ways with Jin and Morrigan but Jin/Morgie still needed to go to the room to change out and pick up the rest of the stuff. After changing out of Jin, Morrigan and dad needed to leave since it was so late and we were all hungry. So karaoke plans had to be scrapped. *sigh* Another time. We parted ways, and I went back to intercept Tenchi, who lugged Blodia Punch and Eternal Slumber back to the car. We went up to 7426 with laptop to see if Henry needed to dump pictures. He forgot the cable so no go! Back to the car and woosh. FOOD. Norms 24 hour diner was a good bet. I was a freaking zombie and kept nodding off in my plate of super oily chicken strips with ranch and honey mustard. We didn't get home until 3:30 AM..
Sunday. Noon, and we are back at the con. I missed the Japanese cosplay panel! AAaaaaaa! I missed Claudia before she left! AAaaaaaaa! I can't find anything in the dealer room! AAaaaaaa! Per request, I changed into Souchan mode for some pictures and glomping by Ash. Tiff still didn't get a picture of Souchan and Claudia was gone so she missed it entirely. Soujiro didn't have a Sanosuke or Yahiko to play with, so it was all lone cosplaying for me that day. Watched RK OVA 2, and some Chibi AMG (Wai Wai!) Gina had already left, so no Benimaru for her. A costume I had scheduled for debut at AX would now have to wait. And the rest of the Hameln group was getting ready to move out to Peacock Hotel. So it was bye to Jon and later to the Hameln group, as I left with Tenchi at 3 PM. About 8 PM, I get a call from the Hameln group, they arrived at their hotel but are too tuckered out for bowling or anything. Just as well, I was dead too still. So it was Marvel Vs. Streetfighter on the Saturn for me and Tenchi at home. But tomorrow....10 AM. Main Street.
Stardate: July 19, 1999 Monday
Trunks: So I forgot to account for the slow trams to and fro, but I got to Main Street Disneyland with my annual pass at 10:15. Allie, Ash, Kelly, Andrei and Tiff were all there waiting. Tiff with her devil annual passport photo. Once assembled, we darted off towards Indiana Jones. I'm quite rusty at reading the Mara "hieroglyphics" but I can still read some. We went thru the Chamber of Knowledge. And Wayne spoiling the Disney majick all along the way. Allie got stuck on the snake side of the car, heh heh. Off to Pirates of the Carribean next. Contemplated dining at the Blue Bayou until Andrei's pocketbook died. Tiff needs a bathroom break! So we stop near New Orleans Train Station for that. Then over to Space Mountain, cos we decided we could live without going to Tarzan's treehouse. Tiff did some snake shopping, just had to buy pineapple. Andrei and Ash got some skewers from Bengal Barbeque while I made good on my promise to get Skuld chan some ice cream for translating the hakama instructions for Souchan. Dole whip!
Showed the Club 33 entrance along the way back. We were all a lovely shade of pale blue while waiting in line for Space Mountain. And all along the way...."Wayne, you should be Vocal! He has a cool sword!" Wayne: "Oh really? What about the sheath?" Ash: "Well the throat's his sheath. He draws it from his throat." Wayne ^_^;. After Space Mountain.... were were extremely hungry so I dragged the crew all the way to Big Thunder BBQ for lunch. Andrei starved while Allie and Tiff split a chicken salad, Kelly got a Farmhouse Chicken, I got pork ribs and chicken, while Ash got the Beef sandwich. Substitution crazy! Since I hate coleslaw. 10% off with the AP card yay! After lunch we went to the Matterhorn. Well we got to the Matterhorn after Andrei lost and found his sweatshirt and we had a stop off at the hat store to entertain Tiffy. Tiffy just -had- to take Andrei on It's a Small World so the rest of us went on the right side of the Matterhorn.
Right side, Kelly. Tiff and Andrei never made it back before we got on. Somewhere along the line, there was a strange discussion how Allie was the baby, Kelly was the nosy neighbor, Ash is the older sister, Tiffy was the mommy, Andrei was the crazy uncle locked up in the attic, and I somehow got stuck with being the mailman. We got off Matterhorn and still no Tiff and Andrei. So me and Allie went to It's a Small World to try and fetch them. A huge line! Un thinkable. Then we decided if they were still inthe boat, we'd get a blackmail picture of them on the Small World boat. Tiffy would love it. Andrei....would not. But they weren't there because they had already found Ash and Kelly back at the Matterhorn. So Allie and I went back. Teacups! We arbitrarily split into the Pink Teacup group (Ash, Andrei, Tiff) and the Blue Teacup group (Wayne, Allie and Kelly). Kelly refused to spin, but Allie and I had different plans. At least Kelly didn't throw up on us. heh heh heh.
For some reason, after this we always split up into the pink and blue groups.
We then attempted to go to the Tiki Hut as Tiff calls it, but it was already full. So more Dole Whip and juice for the group, while Kelly got a crunch bar, and I got an obnoxiously green kiwi Fruitopia. We waited for the Mulan parade at Plaza Belle Terrace and Tiffy got this giant sized inside out Turkey Pot Pie. So they nibbled on that while we watched the Mulan parade at 4:30 PM. Star Tours next stop. I got a picture with two R2D2s! *poke Allie*. Evil Star Tours, ends up right in the merchandise area while had to drag entranced Kelly out of there. Kelly: "Star Wars...." Off to the Haunted Mansion. We took the traditional can can picture. (Whatever!) And the girls gawked at my veins. Tiff kept her eyes open for the entire thing. Or so she sez. About now, I'm getting used to being called "Souchan". But not used to Vocal at all! #$*@(&$(# S&M Bondage Hameln guy. We thought about Splash Mountain but a 2 hour wait.... err no! Big Thunder Mountain instead.
Then off to wait for Fantasmic. We got a good place in the center and camped out. Pink Teacup group waited while Blue Teacup group went to get dinner from Cafe Orleans. Allie and I split a sirloin tips plate and clam chowder bowl while Kelly, who originally wanted dessert, got a salad. We went back to eat and Pink team scurried off to Matterhorn. We finished dinner and Kelly had changed her mind...."Must have chocolate dessert" *insert snide Allie comment here* After dropping off the dinner plates and reported back to Kelly with the selection. Devil's Food Cake with chocolate icing with sprinkles, cheesecake with chocolate topping or strange chocolate parfait. Kelly: "Chocolate with Chocolate with sprinkles!" So that's what I brought back. Good thing I brought back some waters because it was extremely rich and sweet. Super concentrated sugar. After eating about 85% of the cake, Blue team just stared at it. But Pink team came back with cotton candy and were ready to swap.
When we offered the cake to pink team, Ash inhaled it. All done. Not even a flinch from the sugary goodness. Blue team went to go see if Splash Mountain was a good choice. 2 hours still! Neek. We decided to go to Space Mountain, but crossing thru adventureland we see that Indiana Jones was only 30 minutes. Score! Here I figured out Andrei was Tigger, Tiff was Pocahontas, Allie was the evil queen from Snow White, Ash was Jane, Kelly was Chip and I got to be Peter Pan! We went thru Earthly Treasures this time and I think Allie finally saw how they did the effects for the rooms. Back just in time for Fantasmic, and afterwards, went to the center of the park to watch the fireworks. We then worked our way thru Sleeping Beauty's castle to go to Peter Pan's ride. Delay. Delay. Delay. Sort of like AX99! So instead of roughing it, we learned our lessons and just left for another run at Space Mountain. And then back to King Arthur's carousel. Some kid took my demon horse! Arrrrrrr. Well next time.
By that time it was time to leave. Tiff got a hold of the Fantasmic soundtrack, and the line for ice cream at Carnation was way too long. So we parted ways finally for then. Bye all, and thanks for the memories. Well not Tiffy, for I will get to harass her when she comes back to USC! *chirp chirp*
Well, you finally made it through! Cleared all stages. Can you finish it faster? Lets see!
