Erickson, Johnathan Trever, Captain

Career

He went to University of Texas at Arlington in 2360 striving in a degree in Computer Engineering, but dropped out after a semester after an offer at Starfleet Acadamy particularly interested in navigation and engineering. Despite behavioral diffuculties resulting in a formal repremand, he graduated from the Acadamy in 2365 as a valedictorian. His first assignment was on the USS Felix and served as helmsman until rank of Lieutenant. Because of his surprising abilities at tactics, he was restationed on the USS Galaxy as cheif security officer and tactical officer until rank of Lieutenant Commander. He realized his ambitions as an engineer when he was restationed on USS Magellan as chief engineer until rank of Commander. Commander Erickson was then restationed on USS Endeavor as first officer. Promoted to captain and was given command of USS Challenger in 2374 by recommendation of Captain Amisov. Erickson has earned the title of one of Starfleet's best strategist and tactician, and has developed many of his own tactical manuvers.

Captain Erickson first found out about a new galaxy-class vessel being built at Utopia Planitia Ship Yards at Mars from a rumor. Erickson, then commander, decided to confirm this rumor only to find that it was correct. He asked Captain Amisov to recommend him for the command immediately contacted Starfleet Command and requested command. With his service record, he was givin command priveleges to the ship, later named Challenger, to be effective as soon as the ship is ready for the first crew.

As a lieutenant, Erickson was enlisted as an Internal Affairs operative. Occasionally, he was employed in covert operations activities. When he was promoted, his operative status was disabled, although he retained his previous "identity" as an operative and his clearance.

Just before his captaincy, he enrolled in a delegation course to improve his ambassodorial abilities he would need as a captain. Erickson completed the course with honors. During the graduation ceremony, he was given an opportunity to join the esteemed Federation Diplomatic Corps if he could break a peace agreement on Kesprytt III. Erickson was unaware of previous failed attempts to construct a lasting deal on the planet, so he gladly accepted. After several days, he finally made a peace agreement that would enable the planet to soon be admitted to the Federation. During the signing reception, Erickson met with the ambassador that gave him the opportinity to join the Corps as well as a friend to the ambassador. It was from this friend that Erickson found out that his offer was part of a bet between the ambassador and his friend. Erickson didn't appreciate them taking advantage of him. Nevertheless, Erickson was inducted to the Federation Diplomatic Corps.

When Erickson attended Starfleet Academy, he was discouraged by the fact that a music program was not offered at the Academy. He entered an exchange program that allowed him to attend a choir at a local university. That disappointment led him to send a petition to Starfleet Academy Administration to begin instrumental and choral music programs at the Academy. During his senior year at the Academy, a music program was introduced and Erickson signed up for the choir where he enjoyed an exceptional year of singing and performing. To his dismay, as well as the choir's, the auditorium where performances were held had terrible acoustics and, consequently, concerts were of poor quality. As a lieutenant, Erickson sent another petition to Academy Administration for the construction of a new concert hall to complement the improving music program there. The Administration was willing to comply ... if Erickson helped to design and build the hall. Erickson accepted the offer and journyed to San Fransisco to build the concert hall. Because of his committment to his ship, he had to leave after three months of work, although he maintained constant contact with the construction and architectural teams. After two years, the concert hall was completed; at the request of Starfleet Academy and Headquarters, the concert hall was named in honor of the person who incited its construction. Erickson learned of their decision during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He was shocked and embarrased. Although the brass urged him to come and make an impromptu speech, he declined.

Erickson is an avid musician and lover of music. During the construction of Challenger, he requested the plans altered to make the addition of an auditorium and a foyer instead of a cargo bay and some extra crew quarters. He prescribed the rough-in materials for their acoustical qualities and ordered the auditorium to be built with no extra amenities. Just before the ship was completed, Erickson hired a group of architects, musicians and audiologists to help him design the interior of the auditorium. The auditorium and foyer was completed about the same time the ship was make completly operational. The auditorium was affectionally dubed the Challenger Orpheum, due in part to its unique, spectacular architecture in an orpheum-style.
