Philosophies and Beliefs
There is nothing nobler than a mind willing to reach further than the obvious happenings of day to day life. I have always attempted to be an open minded individual... perhaps it is because of my upbringing, perhaps it isn't. But no matter how it came to be, I have become a man who quests only truth and emotion.
Many people in this world claim to seek truth, and many of them like to tell you that there are various truths, all to be explored. And maybe they are indeed right, for there are various degrees of approaching truth, certainly through religion and myth. But the kind of truth I am talking about is neither simply religious nor mythical. I am speaking of what I like to call the "common denominator" within our human existence. This includes simple, basic needs that, as a human being, we must find in our lives, or we will perish - whether mentally or physically.
For example; the need for love, the need for expression, the need for hope. These are all common denominators within our minds and hearts; therefore, they are all the truth. They are emotions that are raw and undeniable, even for those who seek to deny them. At one point, especially in childhood (when we are most open to the truth of our beings,) we feel the truth as if it were as clear as the sunlight. Nothing keeps us from the truth of being human, until further on in our adolescence. It is then that we usually close our hearts and minds to the truth of humanity, seeking mostly to just get through each day without too much confusion or pain. It is also human to fear, and quite a common denominator.
However, fear is much like a necessary testing ground for the human senses to equate and understand how to deal with a challenge or a problem. Fear is necessary, but not an emotion that we are constantly striving to feel or to express. It may be quite common and shared by all humans alike, but we simply do not yearn for fear as we do with the emotions of hope or love.
Truth, to me, shows its face in the smiles or tears of those in touch with their emotions. Truth shows itself in the paintings, poems, stories, crafts and musical compositions of artists who have taken on the burdens of our human existence, whether through their own emotions or through others. These revelations in art help humanity see the raw truth between every living creature and help to continue the evolution of our species.
Therefore, I have come to believe that there is nothing more beautiful or holy than a work of art that has honestly "spoken" through its creator. It is what I continually search for in my life... as an artist and as a human being.
