Benma's Spring Splash II
Yes, this page is dedicated to my Pokemon from Blue, Red, and Yellow. You will see my top bad boys (and girls) as well as some others that I like. Can your Pokemon go toe to toe with mine and live to tell the tale? Let's find out...
MY BEST POKEMON
#3...VENUSAUR
Razor Leaf
Toxic
Leech Seed
Solarbeam
This is the infamous Toxic/Leech Seed combo by the second-best Pokemon capable of doing it. Razor Leaf is superb against Water, Rock, and Ground types with its superior chance for a critical hit. Solarbeam is good, but I would trade it for something better if given the chance.
#6...CHARIZARD
Flamethrower
Dig
Fly
*Slash
After seeing the Johto Journeys episode "Charizard's Burning Ambition", I just had to teach my Charizard Fly. Dig will rock fire and ghost types worlds and help against electric and water. Slash is still a question mark, as it is a good normal type move (they toned down the critical hit ratio in Gold/Silver!!!).
#9...BLASTOISE
Dig
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
Surf
As you can see, I have since beefed up my Blastoise. Dig says "Get those electric types out of he-ah!!" And, Ice beam will take care of those pesky grass types. Hydro Pump is just strong, and Surf is both a cool-looking attack as well as strong (and even if I wanted to, which I don't, it can't be deleted.)
#25...PIKACHU!!
Thunderbolt
Surf
Thunder Wave
Thunder
My first Pokemon, and will often be the last, especially since MewTwo is a rematch Pokemon. Strong with the lightning force, and with SURF it can finally take care of those pesky rock and ground types. The Surfing Pikachu minigaime is so rad!! As you can see, I gave up Quick Attack because he will usually get the first attack anyway, and if he doesn't, then paralysis will return the speed advantage (when it survives the first attack.)
#26...RAICHU
Thunderbolt
Surf
Thunder Wave
Thunder
EXACTLY the same as Pikachu, except its statistics are better (with the exception of speed). Why? Because I'm not about to evolve my little Pikachu!
#34...NIDOKING...CURRENT STATUS=LV. 85
Earthquake
Horn Drill
Toxic
*Double Kick
Ahhh...Nidoking. Often neglected after my first time entering the Hall of Fame, I still like the Moon Stone-evolved Pokemon. The gained ground aspect negates electricity (unlike the unevolved forms), althouh it gains vulnerability to ice and water. Grass remains weak because of the poison aspect. He's got earthquake to shake things up a bit. And it can learn a bunch of other cool TMs, too, making him the "king".
#36...CLEFABLE
Thunder
Blizzard
Psychic
???
I decided that I should get a strong normal-type going, and loaded Clefable to the gills with strong attacks.
#65...ALAKAZAM
Seismic Toss
Recover
Psychic
Reflect
OK, so maybe I'm starting to spend too much time on the game, but this fast addition with high HP and strong special was necessary for my assault on the Round Two Poke Cup. Why waste time with a rental Alakazam when you have your own at the exact right level? Anyways, it plays up it's psychic ability well, with a defense booster, life, and a normal attack which actually does a decent amount of damage considering it's anemic attack rating.
#79...RAPIDASH
Fire Blast
Fire Spin
Toxic
Take Down
I had to play through Blue a second time to get another Toxic for my next combo...Fire Spin and Toxic. How agonizing it would be to watch your HP drained by Toxic while you're immobilized by Fire Spin, and it's more effective than a Thunder Wave/Toxic combo (which wouldn't be bad either...hmm...). It's above average speed allows the combo to work as it stops you before your attack. The attack is better than Ninetales, another option for the combo, even if its special is slightly lower (the defense is the same).
#87...DEWGONG
Rest
Surf
Ice beam
Headbutt
The only Pokemon I have with Rest, which I believe takes you out of too many turns to be truly effective, is a nice addition to the team. The water part makes it strong against fire, which normally fries an ice type. And while I said I don't like Rest generally, it's high HP make it worthwhile in most cases.
#94...GENGAR
Night Shade
*Dream Eater
Thunder
*Hypnosis
First of all, Gengar is a speed demon. Night Shade is good because it will take 100 points off of anybody. I'm not sure what other attacks I'm going to give my Gengar (if any,) but if I don't, Hypnosis and Dream Eater remain a pretty good combination.
#103...EXEGGUTOR
Psychic
*Solarbeam
Leech Seed
Toxic
As mentioned, Mewtwo can be beaten...and it was by this Pokemon. As any good trainer would know, Toxic causes havoc, increasing in poison damage every round. But what I didn't know is that Leech Seed GAINS the same property if the two are combined. That means that you are history in no-time, as well as doubling the amount of HP received each round. Plus, being the only Psychic/Grass Pokemon in B/R/Y, it has a clear tactical advantage from the get-go.
#121...STARMIE
Thunder
Surf
Psychic
Recover
A psychic-water type Pokemon that naturally learns Recover and can learn Thunder...let me think about this one...(sarcasm). An excellent choice, and one of the best rentals in the game! The only thing to fear is it's own Thunder, since the Psychic works against all grass types (except Exeggutor and Tangela, who don't moonlight with Poison). This thing is pretty fast, too.
#130...GYARADOS
Thunderbolt
Surf
Hyper Beam
Hydro Pump
Obviously, I tossed Dragon Rage for Hyper Beam as soon as it reached the proper level, because Dragon Rage's 40 points are good for the Pika cup, but not very much else. As if it's a surprise attack now that EVERYONE knows about it, Thunderbolt can take care of mismatches when they occur. And of course, it has some water attacks.
#134...VAPOREON
Acid Armor
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
*Quick Attack
The prettiest of the three B/R/Y EEVEE evolutions, it's cool just to watch it shimmer in the Gallery mode. It learns Aurora Beam on its own, but a 30 point gain in power makes Ice Beam the better choice. Acid Armor makes up for its defensive shortcomings, and its high HP will make it last, even against electric types. It's 424 HP will have everyone thinking twice about weaker attacks.
#135...JOLTEON
Thunderwave
Quick Attack
Pin Missle
Thunder
Jolteon--the crack Pokemon. If you're looking for a FAST Pokemon, look no further than the lightning stone evolved form of EEVEE. And...if done properly, it can be FASTER THAN MEWTWO. Although Pin Missle, one of the two "super effective" bug attack against psychic types, is still weak, it's there alongside Thunder and Thunderwave. Quick attack could stand to be upgraded..
#144...ARTICUNO
Ice Beam
Sky Attack
Fly
Blizzard
The only one of the three legendary birds that I frequently use, I really like the fact that it naturally learns Blizzard and Ice Beam. It has put the chill on many Pokemon in its day. I wonder why all of the really good flying attacks take two turns to use?
#145...ZAPDOS...CURRENT STATUS, LV. 90
*Thundershock
Thunder
Fly
Drill Peck
True, the two flying moves are redundant, but since Gold and Silver have come out, I have neglected my older Pokemon. And the fact that Drill Peck doesn't take two turns is a nice change of pace. Obviously I would like to upgrade from Thundershock to Thunderbolt. Thunder is powerful, but inaccurate.
#146...MOLTRES...CURRENT STATUS, LV. 5?
Fire Spin
Fire Blast
Fly
???
Yes, even if I don't use them, I would like to have all of the "Legendary Birds" at my disposal. Toxic would be a good addition, to combo with Fire Spin, if it wasn't so hard to come by.
#148...DRAGONAIR
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave
Hyper Beam
Why two of (basically) the same Pokemon? Why not? But seriously, Dragonair is strong against Thunder, an advantage lost by Dragonite's Flying ability. Surf can take out the fire missed by Dragonite. A Blizzard upgrade would serve for more power, but less accuracy and PP, so I'll have to mull that change over. The pride and joy of my Pika cup victory is growing up so fast... *sniff*
#149...DRAGONITE
Fire Blast
Hyper Beam
Thunder
Blizzard
I cover all bases here. Fire Blast, Blizzard, Thunder and Hyper Beam are just incredibly strong (if sometimes inaccurate), and cover just about all types. And there's really only one type that its weak too. Maybe Lance has the right idea; too bad he's only got one of these in B/R/Y. this thing's HP and attack are as good as MewTwo and Mew!!!
#150...MEWTWO
Psychic
Swift
Recover
Thunderbolt
Yes, the genetic freak is the resident bad boy of my group, as well as the rematch ace in the hole. As well he should be--he's as good as three Pokemon--even while paralyzed--as I've proven to the computer time and time again. He can be beaten, but it's not easy... Of course, why would I want to cheese anyone by just using him? He'll be backup for the rematch, assuming I can be beat the first time. Any takers?
OTHER POKEMON I LIKE BUT WILL NEVER USE IN BATTLE
#39...JIGGLYPUFF!!
Yes, if it hadn't been for this cute little thing, I probably never would have become obsessed with Pokemon. I can still hear that song--"Jiggle-y puff Jiggle-e-e-y puff..." If only it had better statistics, it would make my first team...
#28...SANDSLASH
This isn't a bad pokemon to have for your first trip through the game, and is especially useful against Lt. Surge and Blaine (Unless you cheese the computer with a Squirtle imported from Stadium and is now a Blastoise equipped with Surf...:). It's attack, defense, and HP are all levels to be reckoned with. And if you don't want to spread around HM moves, it can learn both Cut and Strength.
#53...PERSIAN
I'm a cat person, and this Pokemon suits me just fine. Plus, with Pay Day, you'll never be strapped for cash. Money, money, money, money...MONEY!!
#107...HITMONCHAN
I REALLY liked this Pokemon at first because it naturally learned Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and Thunder Punch, and therefore could work against almost anyone. BUT...they're all extremely weak attacks. Not to mention the fact that it's slow. But it's still a neat concept...
#133...DITTO
The little shape-shifting bugger is another neat idea, although it costs you a turn to do it. You may just be dead in the time it takes to change...
#134...EEVEE
ANY Pokemon that has three evolutions is just cool. And thanks to Pokemon StadiumI have all of the versions. But I REALLY hate when Flareon shakes his butt at me!
#137...PORYGON
The conversion "attack" is just cool. Converting its type to match its opponent's is an astounding concept. Of course, that fails if you match up with a Pokemon who has an attack that they are weak to...
#141...KABUTOPS...
THANKS A LOT, Nintendo, for your stupid strategy guide not explicitly saying that the DOME FOSSIL turns into Kabuto while the Helix Fossil turns into Omanyte. GRRR... Anyways, This is one of the main reasons I bought Pokemon Red, because I wanted a Kabutops and made the mistake listed above. It's not as strong as I would normally like, but it looks cool and isn't bad on a second or third team.
#151...MEW...
The reason this is down here is because I DON'T HAVE IT!!! If I did though, you had better believe that it would have Psychic and Softboiled. Since it can learn any TM, I don't exactly know what else I would give it, but since I don't have it, I don't have to worry. And neither does anyone else ;P
