DESIGNER: Super Saiyan: Benma 1/2 Casual S.S. : Benma 1/2 WORN BY: Benma 1/2 CONCEPTION: Super Saiyan: April 14, 2000 Casual S.S. : January 1, 2001 PICTURE DATE: Super Saiyan: 7-21-2000 Casual S.S. : TBA APPEARANCES: Super Saiyan: AX 2000, SDCC 2000 Casual S.S. : TBA COMPONENTS: Golden Hair (paper-mache on wire frame), tattered dark blue sleeveless shirt, wristcuffs, black belt, ripped orange gi pants, custom boots. Fake blood, dirt, bruises and scratch marks to desired level. PREPARTATION TIME: 40 Minutes (10 + Workout) POWERS GAINED: 1. Ability to fly. 2. Cool hair. 3. Strength, speed, and power boosts. 4. Ability to use the following techniques--Kamehameha, Genki Dama, Instant Teleportation, Fusion DRAWBACKS: 1. Hair can put somebody's eye out. 2. Must work out immediately before changing into costume. 3. Crazy people always want to fight. STORY: Super Saiyan Goku: I was sitting watching Dragonball Z and P-Chan's quote came to mind..."You're too tall to be Freeza! You should do Cell or Goku instead." Well, the reason I wanted to be Freeza was because he was the most powerful character (prior to defeat) as well as the fact that he was cocky and had all sorts of transformations. Then I said to myself, why not be the most powerful person as well as the lead character!! Plus the fact that Freeza may look like a cool villian but is really a jerk didn't hurt that decision. And the drive to cosplay SS Goku was born. Summer vacation has started, and I have two foci: Study Japanese, and make costumes. The hair-piece took three weeks to complete, and was probably premature as it's strength in places (or lack thereof) will attest to, but I got sick of the thing. Of course, thinking that AX was the following weekend, in order to debut this at AX, I had to bust my butt for the second late night in three days in order to make it presentable. And the yarn on my shoes was pretty lame, but at least everything else looked really good, and I was asked probably 50 times to stop and take a picture (I'm including multiple cameras and poses in that number.) And it's the second costume that I constructed (not pieced together) by myself, as well as the first thing I've ever sewn. Interestingly, at SDCC I would meet the voice actor for Goku and the voice actress for Gohan IN Goku outfit the Friday of SDCC. That was a trip. Casual Super Saiyan Goku: Upon exiting the Hyperbolic Time Chamber during the Cell Saga, Goku and Gohan were able to remain Super Saiyans at all times without exhausting energy. As such, Super Saiyan Goku can be seen in normal street clothes. After purchasing a Goku collar shirt, I realized that while not accurate in the cosplay sense, I could still dress in the Goku shirt while wearing the Super Saiyan hair to look like casual Goku!
