Positives: Top competitor. Exceptional producer. Very good vision and instincts. Quick feet and quick moves. Extremely athletic with superior, NBA-type jumping ability. Can vertical-jump 43-44 inches. Tough and durable. From an athletic standpoint, may have been as impressive as any athlete at the Combine. Will play through pain and can take a licking and keep on ticking. Negatives: Azumah is undersized for an NFL running back, but he is a heavy-duty back, not a third-down back. Summary: Size is a concern, but athletic ability and productivity are big positives. In some ways, Azumah will remind scouts of former Temple RB Paul Palmer and, in other ways, of former Citadel and Cardinal star Stump Mitchell. Information provided by Pro Football Weekly
Notes: Had a great freshman year in 1995, carrying 186 times for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns, catching 15 passes for 116 yards and returning six kickoffs for 86 yards, despite missing three games with a knee injury. Came back in '96 to rush 245-1,308-17, catch 45-521 and four touchdowns and return 12 kickoffs for 280 yards, earning Yankee Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. Did an even better job of running with the ball in '97, when he carried 271-1,585-13, caught 26-298-3 and returned 12 kickoffs for 351 yards and one touchdown. Capped off his career by winning the Walter Payton award as the best Division I-AA player, rushing 342-2,195-21. Also had 218 receiving yards and 313 return yards. Scored 140 points on 23 touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Finished second in I-AA rushing yards and all-purpose yards and fourth in scoring.
