The 'JAYLEA' Holstein-Friesian stud was founded in 1951,
by Jack & Lorna ADAMS,
at
Ponde, near Mannum,
in South Australia
(next to the mighty River Murray - on reclaimed swamp
pasture).
***
On 26th May, 1989, Jack died,
but Lorna is still living on the farm, and still running it,
with the help of her son-in-law, Michael SCHELLEN,
and her grand-son, Rick Schellen.
***
In 1995, at the age of 75 years,
Lorna was awarded The Master Breeder Award,
- from the HFCC (Holstein Friesian Cattle Club).
She was the first woman to receive this award, and the 9th person,
in the whole of Australia! Quite an achievement!
***
Over the past 48 years,
'JAYLEA' has acquired a reputation for good foundation cows,
and is famous for its 'A' line
(including Star Brood cows, such as Jaylea Cascade Alicia, etc.).
***
The original bull who 'made' the stud, however,
was Glen Murray Chieftain King,
or "Kingie", as he was affectionately called!
He was Jack's pride and joy!
