PostscriptIn January 2006, I learned that C.S. Lewis put forth some of the same arguments as I in his collected writings "Mere Christianity." Never having read any of Lewis' writing, I decided to watch a video from our church library. It is called "Through Joy and Beyond," produced by the Bridgestone Group, written and narrated by the Rev. Walter Hooper who, in his young days, was the private secretary to Lewis in his last years. The voice of Lewis is Peter Ustinov. Considering Lewis' background of atheism and the manner of his conversion, he appears to be summarizing the arguments which led to his conversion. That is not my motivation for writing this article. I just got tired of people referring to Jesus as a good man when they don't accept what he preaches.

Jesus Was Not a Good Manby Traute Klein, biogardener
Jesus? Oh yes!Jesus, oh yes! The son of the carpenter in Nazareth. The illegitimate son, to be precise. At least Joseph had the guts to protect Mary from getting stoned. That really should have been her fate. What a slut she was! Barely old enough to bear children, and already pregnant by a much older man. Of course, Joseph was not exactly innocent of the pregnancy and he should have been stoned as well, but that is not what used to happen. Men's sins were overlooked more readily than women's. Well, at least Joseph made sure that his young mistress lived. After all, he did not want to die without an heir.
Jesus in JerusalemHebrew boys were presented in the temple in Jerusalem at age 10, unless, like Jesus, they were illegitimate. So Jesus had to wait till he was 12 to be presented to the priests. No wonder he was then able to show off his superior intelligence by asking and answering questions which amazed the Bible scholars. He did not even have enough sense to go back to Nazareth with his family. Did he intend to become a priest? He was not a Levite, so that was out of the question.
Delusions of GrandeurWhat made him think that he was the Son of God? Never mind Son of God. He believed that whoever had seen him had seen the Father, in other words, he believed that he was God in the flesh. And those poor disciples of his, getting talked into leaving their families to fend for themselves while they bummed around the countryside with this preacher of the coming Kingdom of God! He certainly had the gift of the gab. Thousands of people flocked to listen to him preach. Of course he healed the sick as well, and most people could not afford doctors in those days.
Where am I going?Where am I going in this dissertation?
I want to make you think. I am tired of people telling me that Jesus was a good man but that he was deluded when he claimed to be the Son of God.
According to the rules of logic, I see only three possibilities as to who Jesus was or is:
