Anyone who's been on this list (whether an active 'poster' or lurker
like me)
over the past year must feel a real sadness just like me. Last year at
this
time we were all abuzz with the upcoming 'puppy episode'....I'd rush
home from
work to read the posts, anxious to hear about how everyone was planning
to
spend the evening of 'the episode'...GLAAD parties, gathering friends
and
family to laugh and enjoy Ellen's brave, tentative steps out of the
closet.
Items in the papers and news magazines...what a sweet time it was.
Finally,
the 'big night' as I hurriedly set my VCR and snuggled in front of the
TV, for
what I knew was going to be special.
And special it was...as I laughed through my tears, and knew I was not
alone
in suddenly realizing the lack of chemistry with men could mean only one
thing...the thought that lurked in the back of my mind for years...the
words I
could not, until 35, bring myself to say...thankfully, not over an
airport loudspeaker, but quietly over coffee with a treasured
friend/confidant...
Now, a short year after the triumph, the awards, comes the
swan-song...ABC has
decided to buckle under pressure, and end for many of us, the 1/2 hour
a week
we laughed with Ellen over 1st dates, awkward situations with family and
friends..shared Ellen's fears and trepidations (what do I tell Mom &
Dad)...we
find that, sadly, and far too soon, it's over...one more hour to tape
and
enjoy over and over and over again...
I, for one, am feeling not only anger, but extreme sadness over this
loss...
Julie...April 98.
Thanks for your wonderful thoughts Julie. I felt the sadness last
night and
it has continued all day today. I looked forward to watching "Ellen"
every
Wednesday. It has been a special show for so many of us and now it is
gone.
I wish we could all give Ellen a hug, and let her know how much we
care. She
has done so much for all of us. Wednesday nights will never be the
same - in
fact, TV will never be the same. Thanks Ellen, for giving us "Ellen".
We
will miss her!

ABC told GLAAD that the final decision
on Ellen's return next season has not been
made, and that the decision not to air the two
episodes is the result of Two Guys, A Girl and a
Pizza Place's strong ratings.
Yeah, ABC hasn't yet reached a final decision on Ellen's
return for another season - my foot! ....You don't have to
be Einstein to add 1+1+1 and see a very final decision
there. There hasn't been a single hint for months that
ABC IS going to renew Ellen.
Then why don't they just come right out and say it????
"We don't want Ellen because we are tired of airing
groundbreaking TV when we can earn out money
with less controversy!"
(ok, "coming out" seems to be what they have a
problem with...)
ABC is screwing Ellen wherever they can. Putting
the show on hiatus for six weeks AND replacing it
with a no-brainer like the pizza show (we don't want
to intellectually challenge those Drew Carey viewers
all too much, do we?!?) AND then extending the
hiatus to 7, 8...let's say 9 weeks AND canning two
already taped episodes - but no, we haven't reached
a final decision yet and we don't know where everyone
gets the idea that we have.

Thanks for all you've done with your show. You have been an inspiration to us, given us laughter, tears and the recognition - yes we do exist, on national TV! You are huge, in spirit & heart. I know you will continue to do great things in your life, don't ever let the naysayers stop your path. God has blessed you, you have been a saving grace for so many. you deserve every good thing and will always have my appreciation, respect and prayers.
Thank you Ms. Degeneres, you are a rare jewel indeed.

Hi Linny,
Thank-you so much for having all this info together for us concerned fans. I have been searching many sites today on the internet looking for this exact info. It was a real relief to see all the addresses. My girlfriend, son,
bestfriend, and others will be emailing, calling and mailing our concerns.
We love Ellen, she is a funny lady! We must see her lighting our hearts again with laughter on her own show in the special way that she does!
Again Thank-You,
Janell, Pat and Chris [April 98]
Hello,
I am writing in hopes that someone will be listening and be willing to make a
difference. I am a married christian 34 year old mother of two sons 8 and 11.
I am probably the very kind you would assume that would not watch Ellen.
Wrong! I have much respect for a woman who would dare to change attitudes.
Raising children in today's world is made more difficult by the lack of
positive role models. Michael Jordan is one who comes to mind instantly as
someone I can wish for my sons to look up to. Sadly this list is too short.
Ms. DeGeneres' honesty and willingness to put her private life out for all to
see gives her the number two spot in my opinion. Something is clearly wrong
when the sexual actions of our President makes his ratings in the polls rise,
whereas tasteful positive depictions of a minority lifestyle on TV supposedly
cause ratings to fall. Shouldn't honesty be rewarded in this world? I am
sure that your boost in ratings for the "coming out" show and the soon to be
aired "last episode" will see you through for awhile.
Gay lifestyles have been and are always going to be here to stay. Dare to
make a difference and rise above the rest. Support Ms. DeGeneres by giving
her a platform to reach millions. I cannot believe that anybody would not
want to be a part of making the world a better place. Where would we be if
people had not stood up for segregation? We are Canadians who have moved to
the States within the last five years. I was shocked to learn that there was
segregation here during my lifetime! Thankfully my children don't understand
why anyone would treat a black person as less than a person. And I will teach
them to accept gay people as equals too.
I am disgusted at the controversy surrounding the parental guidance warnings
being slapped on Ellen. Sex and violence is all over the television with no
labels constantly. Slapping this kind of label only on Ellen's show is like
flagging a bomb. Warning: this is really wrong - even worse than the other
crap we claim is okay for you!
Ms. DeGeneres is a wonderful commedianne - the lucy of the 90's. This year's
shows have depicted her lesbian character in only the most positive of lights.
I have used these episodes as a basis for discussion on sexual orientation
with my sons. I dream of a day in which all people can live harmoniously
together regardless of race, colour, or sexual preference. I hope that some
day when my son is in college he will have friends from various backgrounds
with no hint of racism in the environment. Please don't stop what is progress
towards this direction. Please be brave enough to try to affect people's
minds positively and eliminate hate. If Ellen can "dream big" why can't you?
Bring back "Ellen" for another season. Let Ms. DeGeneres expand both this
character and our minds into our living rooms. Continue to work together as
producers, writers, and network to produce truly quality television. And
don't ever forget to "dream big". There are those of us out here that will be
grateful.
Sincerely,
Robin [May, 98]
Thank you so much for your page. "Ellen" makes my day. Every show is
so beautiful and funny. I just fell in love with her comedy and warm
scenes filled with love, small touch and little kisses. She makes me
feel so proud. After I watch her show I feel I can almost take the
world by myself. Well, I hope ABC changes its mind and brings Ellen
back to the air where she belongs; where she can teach the world to
understand, to be generous, and not to judge other.
I do hope my input is one more grain of sand towards
helping "Ellen" back. I'll miss her a lot.
Regards.

I too always believed something was not right about the ratings. Ellen
isn't just a show for gays, we all lke it. We were over due for somethng
new and fresh on tv. Ellen has a lot of talent more than most of what is
on tv at the present. All women should stand up for her.
